Qualifications: Texas Certified Nurse Aide Texas Certified Medication Aide Minimum of 6 months experience General Duties: Perform all duties as assigned and in accordance with facility’s established policies and procedures, nursing care procedures and safety rules and regulations. Make resident rounds at the beginning of each shift and every two hours thereafter to administer quality nursing care. Verify the identification of a resident before administering nursing care or serving food, to assure that appropriate care is being provided to the correct resident. Assure that water pitchers are cleaned, filled with fresh drinking water and within the resident’s reach. Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator. A CMA is under the direct supervision of the charge nurse. The charge nurse will follow up with the CMA to ensure the med pass is completed timely and accurately to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times. QUALIFICATIONS : Ability to communicate effectively in English through both speech and writing. Previous patient care experience preferred. Current certification for Medication Aide. RESPONSIBLITIES Reports promptly any change of patient condition or other concerns to Patient Care Supervisor. Follow charting guidelines for PRN documentation. Reports medication reorder. Participates in all assigned meetings, trainings, education and in-service as required. Inventory documentation of drugs on appropriate forms. Current certification for Medication Aide. Medication Aide-Certified Job responsibilities The role of the Medication Aide-Certified, (MA-C) under the direction of the Licensed Nurse, is providing routine daily medication, either prescription or non-prescription, to residents whose condition and drug regimen are stable. Respects residents rights Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy. Must demonstrate knowledge of “five rights” of medication administration. Administers and records all medication given to residents' based upon their specific chart. Observes that medication is ingested, does not leave medication at the bedside Notifies appropriate licensed staff when a resident complains of pain. May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications. Records the administration of medications appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed. Answers resident call lights, anticipates resident's needs and makes rounds to assigned resident under the supervision of a licensed nurse or charge nurse on the shift. Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift. Performs all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy. Reports and when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents. Job Requirements Certified Medication Aide (MA-C) Requirements: MA-C Certification Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. (Water pitcher dated with current date) Organize medication storage room 3 x weeks. Assigned days will be posted. Assist with feeding during meal times (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) Before end of shift review ALL MAR's for HOLES And any other duties as assigned *Remember to prevent medication errors and drug diversions. Observes, records, and reports observations such as unexpected and untoward effects from medications. Takes vital signs as needed prior to administration of certain medications. Provides direct resident care. Functions as a CNA when not assigned to administer medications. Develops and maintains courteous and professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is to provide care for the residents under the direction of the nursing and medical staff. Administers and documents medications given by following specifically written physicians orders, including oral, topical, and suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops. Understands and implements the Fire Safety and Disaster Preparedness Plan and evacuation procedures of the community during drills and actual emergencies. Performs various treatments not requiring license nurse (hot/cold applications, vital signs, weights, etc.) Uses procedure manual to verify correct techniques and practices standard precautions. Observes, records, and reports observations such as unexpected and untoward effects from medications. Takes vital signs as needed prior to administration of certain medications. Provides direct resident care. Functions as a CNA when not assigned to administer medications.
