The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) is a 1,932 licensed bed facility, Level III Trauma Center, Stroke Center and Level I Cardiac Center. Between our two adult emergency departments, approximately 50,000 patients are seen with close to 14,000 admissions annually. In our pediatric emergency department approximately 23,000 patients are seen annually accounting for 3,000 admissions. Our PAs and NPs serve as integral members of a multidisciplinary team providing excellence in emergency medical care. In addition, the PA/NP coordinates care with consultant services, recommends follow-up care, facilitates referral to various internal and external facilities and takes part in multidisciplinary continuous quality improvement. Our UMMC Adult Emergency Medicine provider group includes about 40 physicians and a growing number of PAs/NPs. Patients are seen in both the West and East Bank Emergency Departments, which house over 50 beds. Our group is focused on providing high-quality patient care and expanding the academic focus of the University of Minnesota Medical Center. We work with several learners at various stages in their medical education. The Rush University Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Hospital Medicine jointly seek multiple Advanced Practice Providers (APP) who are boarded-certified and trained to manage the care of adult patients waiting to be admitted to inpatient units. This role will assume primary responsibility for multiple patients at any given time. The main responsibilities include the monitoring of patient status, managing medications, ordering additional tests, reviewing results and managing consults. Based upon the workload, you may be asked to assist with management of low acuity patients. The APP will help emergency medicine and hospital medicine continue their strong, collaborative relationship through joint-appointments, functional cross-training, periodic interdepartmental shift assignments, and engagement on multi-specialty process improvement activities.
