Overview Responsible for providing prenatal, postnatal, general medical care and treatment of patients within the Maternal Fetal Medicine division which is a division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Nurse Practitioners are expected to function as an independent provider primarily coordinating pre-pregnancy, prenatal and post-partum care in women with high-risk pregnancies. This position will provide a combination of inpatient and outpatient care duties. Maternal Fetal Medicine nurse practitioners’ function in an expanded nursing role and perform selected tasks and services within the province of medicine as well as tasks that fall within the province of nursing. Nursing and medicine must maintain ongoing collaboration in education and practice so that the nurse practitioner is maximally effective in meeting the primary health-care needs of women. When performing nursing aspects of this role, the practitioner must have the opportunity to engage in independent as well as co-operative decision-making. When performing expanded aspects of the role that overlap with medicine, the practitioner must function in collaboration with qualified physicians within the framework of jointly approved guidelines. Nurse practitioners not only must be prepared and competent to apply additional knowledge and skills, but also must be ready and willing to accept responsibility and accountability for their practice. This position will require travel between all Maternal Fetal Medicine locations and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Responsibilities Obtain a complete health, psychosocial, obstetric, and gynecologic history and record findings in a systematic, accurate, and succinct form Perform a complete physical examination, with specific emphasis on the reproductive system Order, perform, and interpret routine laboratory tests Develop and implement plans for health promotion and health maintenance, including plans for disease prevention and provision of health education and counseling Provide periodic health assessment of normal, non-pregnant, and asymptomatic women Provide clinical management of women having gynecologic problems Provide assessment, education, and management for family planning and fertility control Provide prenatal care for women with pregnancies, giving attention to both maternal and fetal health Provide postpartum care, including attention to parent and infant relationships, for women who have had pregnancies Provide health education and counseling, with emphasis on physical and psychosocial dimensions of adolescence, sexuality, childbearing, parenting, climacteric, aging, and family life Co-manage care for patients with selected health complications in collaboration with the physician Arrange referrals to other members of the health-care team as needed and to community resources as appropriate Qualifications Required: Nurse Practitioners must have a MSN with a nurse practitioner focus. Must be a licensed RN by the Virginia Board of Nursing and a certified nurse practitioner. Physician Assistants must have a MPA and be credentialed as a licensed Physician Assistant within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Overview Randall Children’s Hospital and the Child Abuse Response and Evaluation Services Northwest (CARES NW) in Portland, Oregon, are pleased to announce that we are recruiting for a full time child abuse nurse practitioner. The NP will join a well-developed inpatient and outpatient multidisciplinary consultation program for suspected child abuse and neglect. How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians, offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients in accordance with established policy and state guidelines. They ensure necessary documentation of services is provided to the Site Medical Director or designee to monitor the provision of clinical services. Additionally, they communicate scheduling changes to the Medical Director and H.S.A. and make arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time. Key Responsibilities Provides medical care to inmates, including conducting exams, chronic care clinics, and infirmary rounds. Maintains accurate and legible progress note documentation in SOAP format and adheres to formulary guidelines. Responds to emergencies and makes logical decisions regarding non-formulary drugs or off-site referrals. Supports existing policies and procedures for admission, transfer, and specialty consultant referrals. Maintains confidentiality and provides input into facility committees as requested. Additional Details Up to $5,000 Bonus Available Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
