Location: Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, Orlando, FL Department: Women's Trige Unit Type: Variable Full-time (36 hours) Shift : Days Women's Trige Unit The function of Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies (WPHWB) Women’s Triage Unit is based on the primary care model principles. As a Level III Perinatal Center, the Women’s Triage Unit provides the full spectrum of care for the obstetrical and gynecological patient. Tele-medicine is used for Psychiatry consults and Stroke Alert management. All non-trauma emergent obstetrical ambulance patients will be received in Triage. All trauma patients will be sent to the Emergency Department at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Triage is the receiving unit for all transfers from another hospital unless otherwise decided by the attending physician and the leadership team. All transfers must be generated through the Orlando Regional Transfer Center in consultation with the Perinatology team. The Women's Triage Unit provides comprehensive care for the Obstetrical (OB) and Gynecological (GYN) outpatients. This is defined as patients evaluated by a physician within the previous 24-hours and sent with an established treatment plan. If at any time, the patient must be evaluated by a physician, the patient will be transferred to the Women’s Triage Unit. Overview The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is the main point of contact for an assigned group of cancer patients, their families, caregivers, and referring physicians. The ONN demonstrates excellent critical thinking skills and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, allied health providers, and administrative support staff to identify and overcome barriers to care, ensure care is seamless, provide timely access to care, and provide education and support throughout the patient's cancer continuum They will also assist in identifying and recruiting potentially eligible patients into relevant clinical trials and other programs to reduce healthcare disparities and improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN): Organizes and facilitates weekly multidisciplinary tumor conferences for the assigned disease site group(s) to ensure case materials such as radiology, pathology, and outside treatment notes are assembled before the conference. Is responsible for ensuring that patients are scheduled appropriately, recommended patient follow-up occurs, and patients are educated on their diagnosis and conference recommendations. Serves as the liaison between internal and external referring physicians, other members of the care team, and patients to ensure clinical and administrative information is communicated timely, patients' emotional and support needs are addressed, and the patient has a seamless transition of care throughout the UF Health system. Will collaborate with the department manager, physician leaders, and the Cancer Centers Community Outreach and Engagement team to participate in community outreach and education for their assigned disease site group(s). Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Current RN license in the state of Florida. BSN and professional nursing board certification are preferred at the time of hire. All nurses hired after April 30, 2014, without a BSN will be required to obtain a BSN within three years of hire. All nurses hired after June 30, 2011, without a professional nursing board certification will be required to obtain a professional nursing board certification after two years of hire or at the certification eligibility date for those certifications requiring more than two years of experience. Minimum of two (2) years of recent hospital clinical experience. Oncology nursing experience preferred. Prior navigation experience is preferred. Prefer knowledge in medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, diagnostic and laboratory data interpretation, and clinical management of patients. Excellent communication skills, including writing, speaking, and listening. Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Work well under stress and be able to provide emotional support to cancer patients and their families. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current RN license in the State of Florida required.
