The establishment of Collaborative Practice Agreement Chapter 257 of the Laws of 1988 of New York State which took effect April 1, 1989, authorizes Nurse Practitioners certified by the State Education Department to use the title "Nurse Practitioner" [for Nurse Practitioner job description, see appendix] and engage in the expanded practice of nursing, which may include the performance of primary health care services and the issuance of prescriptions. Practice agreements and practice protocols must be established and maintained in the practice settings of the Nurse Practitioner and collaborating physician where they shall be available to the Department for inspection. 2. Practice Protocols Practice protocols shall identify the area of practice to be performed by the Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with the physician and shall reflect accepted standards of nursing and medical practice. Protocols shall include provisions for case management including diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate recordkeeping by the Nurse Practitioner; and may include such other provisions as are determined by the Nurse Practitioner and collaborating physician to be appropriate. These protocols will be determined by area of specialty. 3. Practice Agreements Practice agreements shall include provisions for the following: a. Patient Assignment Patients are assigned to the Nurse Practitioner or physician according to the needs of the patient. b. Diagnostic Tests Laboratory tests may be ordered according to the initial work-up guidelines found in the reference protocol. Collaboration is not necessary for routine diagnostic procedures. However, consultation and documentation should be completed before more extensive tests are ordered, e.g., nuclear medicine tests, MRI, CT scan, IVP, etc. c. Consultation Nurse Practitioners consult with and refer patients to subspecialty clinics as needed. d. Prescriptive Practice Nurse Practitioners prescribe medications according to the New York State Laws and Regulations for prescription writing and record-keeping (see Appendix). e. Charting Nurse Practitioners are responsible for documenting findings, consultations and plans of care in the patients' medical records. Registered Nurse (RN) - Same Day Surgery, Per Diem

Overview O.R. Same Day Surgery Per Diem, Monday – Friday Vaired 10 hour shifts 6:00am - 9:30pm (staggard start times) Our Same Day Program is a very busy 34-bed unit where patients are efficiently prepared for their surgery or procedures. A typical day we care for 50-70 patients. We also provide post anesthesia recovery care for those patients being discharged home the “same day” as their procedure. On the main unit we serve patients from 15 years through adulthood and in our separate pedi periop program we care for patients 14 and under. Within our department is a regional block program where patients receive sedation by our moderate sedation trained nurses while being administered a preoperative block before going into the OR for most commonly a joint replacement. Preadmission Services that utilize our program include but are not limited to orthopedics, gynecology, plastics, ENT, vascular, urology, radiology, cardiology and thoracic surgery. We are looking for experienced nurses that are team players and want to work in a busy 34 bed Same Day Surgery Program (SDP). Shifts are 10 hours between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:30 pm. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Documents information into patient record in an accurate and timely manner Obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies Generates medical renewals under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider Assists LPN’s with obtaining information for pump/sensor/meter approvals Assists in clinical coverage as needed Adheres to AMC’s regulatory compliance issues Other responsibilities as assigned by manager Qualifications High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required 1-3 years Medical office experience - preferred Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Ability to work within a team as well as individually Certified Medical Assistant with accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) Upon Hire - required Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
