Psychiatric Nurse Arizona State Hospital Job Location: Address: 501 N 24th Street Phoenix, AZ. 85008 Posting Details: Salary: $35.6271 - $43.1274 (DOE) Grade: N1 Job Summary: This position is eligible for a $5,000 hiring incentive. Provides direct care staff work on a rotating schedule and may be required to work any day of the week to meet the needs of the treatment center and patients. Responsible and accountable for patient care during assigned shift. Establishes patient priorities and evaluates patient outcomes. Acknowledges physician orders and administers medication and treatments. Participates with the treatment team in the development of patient treatment plans. Provides individual and group therapeutic interventions. Provides ongoing patient education. Responds to psychiatric and medical emergencies, uses the concepts of performance improvement to improve the quality of patient care and serves as a role model for para-professional staff. Assists in the orientation and clinical supervision of staff. Knows and adheres to all applicable hospital/treatment center policies and procedures as well as standards of all regulatory agencies. Assigns nursing care of patients and supervises the provision of care. Job Duties: – Provides direct psychiatric care and medical nursing care to patients; observation of behavior and physical status – Transcribe doctor orders, medication and chart review, administer medication and treatments, count accountable medication, assist doctor in sick call with nursing input – Documentation in patient records, complete nursing assessments, summaries and other documentation as needed – Provides orientation, supervision, on the job training to new employees; assists in evaluation of job performance, acts as a resource person for unit employees – Attends in service training to maintain or increase knowledge of leadership, supervision, medical/surgical and psychiatric nursing updates, and legal aspects of nursing, etc. –Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of: - Principles of psychiatric nursing and general principles of medical, geriatric and forensic nursing; the nursing process in the development of resident care plans; psychiatric rehabilitation, pharmacology, infection control. - Applicable hospital/treatment policies and procedures; patient rights and responsibilities. - Concepts of performance improvement activities. - Basic computer programs and software related to the health record and the completion of unit reports. - Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies. Skill in: - Assessment of patient's physical and mental status. - Patient's needs. - Communicating with patients, nursing staff, members of the treatment team and other departments. - Therapeutic interventions; providing education to patients and staff. - Documenting observations and interventions. - Effective communication techniques, both oral and written. Pre-Employment Requirements: Must possess a valid and current RN license to practice in Arizona. Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certification. A State Hospital employee must possess a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issues pursuant to A.R.S.41-1758.07 or must apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment. How you make a difference As a Registered Nurse (RN), your primary responsibility is to provide patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will work under the supervision of Charge Nurse(s) to provide patient education and activities in accordance with your competencies and education. This role requires excellent communication and critical thinking skills to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities Assist in assessing and planning individual treatment programs, consulting with Charge Nurse(s) and other staff as necessary. Implement medical plans by administering medications, obtaining diagnostic tests, and assisting with medical or minor surgical procedures as needed. Count controlled substances and implement clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. Document nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting as required by policy and attend mandatory staff meetings and training. Communicate information to nursing staff, physician, health care unit supervisory personnel or other staff as necessary. Additional Details Full-Time Night 12 hour shifts! Qualifications & Requirements Education Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Experience Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience Licenses/Certifications Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment.
