The staff nurse will be responsible for documentation of care given with patient progress. The RN will work collaboratively with the medical staff in matters of patient care. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The 28-bed mixed-acuity unit cares for patients who have been implanted with an LVAD, which is unique to the heart and vascular critical care and heart and vascular progressive care units. Nurses also care for acute cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and congenital heart patients. The HVPCU is a current AACN Silver Beacon Award winner and 2-time AACN Gold Beacon award winner, which recognizes excellence in nursing care and nurse satisfaction at the unit level. In addition, the HVPCU had the highest patient satisfaction of inpatient units for FY 2024. HVPCU is an all RN staff and operates with a nurse patient ratio of 1:2-3, as well as a dedicated charge nurse free from a patient assignment. HVPCU is one of two inpatient units that care for advanced Heart Failure patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) and continuous inotrope support. With a mix of both medical and surgical service lines, the HVPCU nurse is well rounded in both types of nursing. Aside from vasopressors, the HVPCU manages and titrates multiple IV drips, and manages complex patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. The HVPCU RN is responsible for managing all aspects of patient care and coordinating with the multidisciplinary team for the best patient outcomes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S): Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact. required or Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit required. We take patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, aneurysms, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, neuromuscular diseases and other diagnoses involving the neurologic system. The floor beds consist of patients requiring every 4-hour monitoring. Additionally, there are 7 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) beds embedded in the 21 neuro floor beds. These patients are seizure disorder patients admitted electively with their anti-convulsant medications on hold and hard wired to continuous EEG. This allows the physicians to identify the area of the brain where the seizures are occurring. Many of these patients become candidates for brain mapping with surgically placed grids to further pinpoint the area causing the seizures. This mapping allows the surgeon to determine if the patient would be a candidate for surgical removal of parts of the brain to stop seizure activity and still allow the patient to have functionality. The nurse-to-patient ratio for floor patients is typically 1:5. We take patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, aneurysms, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, neuromuscular diseases and other diagnoses involving the neurologic system. The floor beds consist of patients requiring every 4-hour monitoring. Additionally, there are 7 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) beds embedded in the 21 neuro floor beds. These patients are seizure disorder patients admitted electively with their anti-convulsant medications on hold and hard wired to continuous EEG. This allows the physicians to identify the area of the brain where the seizures are occurring. Many of these patients become candidates for brain mapping with surgically placed grids to further pinpoint the area causing the seizures. This mapping allows the surgeon to determine if the patient would be a candidate for surgical removal of parts of the brain to stop seizure activity and still allow the patient to have functionality. The nurse-to-patient ratio for floor patients is typically 1:5.
