Primary Functions JOB DESCRIPTION The Registered Nurse is a clinically competent practitioner of pediatric, family centered nursing care. The nurse provides safe nursing care to the pediatric primary care patients with minimal guidance and bases practice on identified principles and standards of care. The RN is responsible for daily patient care, assessment and treatment in collaboration with the clinical medical provider. The RN must be competent in caring for patients with moderate to complex heath issues. Assists nurse manager or Office manager with administrative issues which affect the clinical practices within the office as well as comply with the administrative policies and clinical protocols. Essential Functions: Follow the nursing process to deliver care: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Synthesizes patient assessments data and recognizes complex situations prior to communicating with the care team. Documentation reflects ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of patient care. Provides care that meets professional standards of practice and meets regulatory requirements. Safely administers medications and medications as prescribed by the provider. Triages patient’s calls utilizing Barton Schmidt pediatric protocols, national teleheath standards and clinical advice from the clinical provider. Assists the clinical provider with in office procedures within the scope of the nurse’s license. Performs phlebotomy to obtain blood specimens and back office laboratory tests. Provides age and developmentally appropriate care to primary care patients. Additional Requirements: RN Required, BSN preferred. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Supervises scheduling process for patients: assists in triaging new patients for urgency; ensures that patients are assigned appropriate time slots; assists in assigning new patients/consults to appropriate providers; and works with clerical staff to ensure coordination for patients in need of multiple clinic visits (Neuro-Oncology, Ophthalmology, MRI, etc.). Aid in establishment of studies Write narrative descriptions and other forms necessary for IRB review and implementation of studies. Review and edit data collection forms and consents. Aid in writing of new studies and protocols. Assist in designing study budgets. Education Assisting in developing education materials for patients and families.
