Duties & Responsibilities PURPOSE OF POSITION Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing, Special Projects plans and directs all aspects of the Nursing Excellence Program. The Nursing Excellence program includes all organizational designations of excellence related to nursing practice including but not limited to Beacon, PRISM Lantern, Surgical Safety and ANCC Programs including Pathway to Excellence and/or Magnet. As well as leadership of supporting programs. The Director of Nursing, Nursing Projects has broad expertise in the delivery of nursing professional practice, including models for care delivery and models of professional practice. The DON is responsible for hospital-wide efforts around developing, implementing and enhancing conceptual models that drive professional nursing practice at Metropolitan Hospital. As it relates to Nursing Excellence Designations, the DON provides leadership and oversight for each designation and is responsible for retaining recognition by assessing enterprise readiness, ensuring improvement strategies to meet program criteria are formulated and implemented, oversee the development and completion of the various designation and re-designation applications, annual report submissions, site visit survey lead and serves as Bellevue’s Nursing Excellence researcher. The DON provides leadership to program dedicated staff and has responsibility as an influential leader to all Metropolitan Hospital as it relates to Nursing Excellence and program recognition. The DON assists leaders throughout the organization to ensure nurses are informed and updated on an ongoing basis about program initiatives, developments and progress. Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities Provides an experience and environment of patient- and family-centered care. Interprets impact of broad scope organizational change for staff and develops change strategies for successful implementation. Incorporates the system and hospital’s vision, missions and values in goals and programs within Nursing Excellence. Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes. Formulates objectives, goals and strategies collaboratively with other stakeholders. Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to clinical activity, quality, safety. Contribute to the success of the organization by providing leadership, direction and coordination for areas of responsibility. Manage and direct all activities within the area of responsibility. Continually assesses all services, identifies problems, utilizes data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions. Maintain records related to services that are complete, accurate, available, and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements. Engages staff and other stakeholders in continuous improvement of systems and processes; manages resources for staff participation in improvement work activities. Ensures effective facilitation of improvement teams and development of leadership skills to ensure overall effectiveness of the meetings. Perform other duties as needed Minimum Qualifications Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and, A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or, A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
