Job Description The perioperative registered nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room for all patient populations. This primary position at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Malvern, will include collaboration with Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware and the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford, to optimize available resources in achieving optimal patient outcomes. This position may require travel to these facilities. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy. This position is expected to maintain all state and federal licensure and clearances for PA, DE, and NJ for periodic rotation to the facilities in Delaware and New Jersey at the discretion of Perioperative Leadership. This includes active registered nurse (RN) licensure in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, and current Pennsylvania (PA) FBI Fingerprint Report, PA Criminal Background Record, and PA Child Abuse Clearance. This position requires working shifts aligned with the needs of the department and the assigned FTE of the RN. Schedule: full-time, 60 hours biweekly, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. No Weekends, No Holidays, No Call Responsibilities Provides age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice. Assesses patient’s immediate pre-operative, intraoperative, and immediate post-operative status at intervals in compliance with organizational policies/procedures. Develops an individualized perioperative patient plan of care. Protects the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources. Performs accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items in compliance with organizational policies/procedures. Performs interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level. Manages patient specimens according to organizational policy and procedures. Communicates the patient status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care. Provides/administers medications safely and correctly in compliance with organizational policies/procedures. Performs interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline level. Performs interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period. Performs interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection. Evaluates patient progress toward attaining outcomes. Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE.This is a 36-hr/wk nightshift position. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators.
