Overview Labor & Delivery, Recovery, & Postpartum (LDRP): Experience a unit where you can contribute to roughly over 700 births annually, and then go on to care for those new moms and babies during the postpartum period. The patient population on this unit encompasses care of the antepartum and intrapartum patient during the labor process and/or cesarean section, and care of the mom and newborn couplet after delivery. CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity available for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the LDRP Unit. The RN administers culturally sensitive nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with ANA standards, the New Jersey Practice Act, The Joint Commission, professional standards, and established hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures, all grounded in evidence-based nursing practice. The RN utilizes the Nursing Process to provide patient-centered care and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions through analysis of nurse-sensitive indicators and patient outcomes. Orientation includes satisfactory completion of IV Course, CPR Certification, Basic Fetal Monitoring, OB Recovery, and NRP within six months. Care is delivered using a patient-focused model supported by a multidisciplinary approach. The RN also scrubs in for cesarean sections and takes on-call coverage as needed. Responsibilities Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the patient's individual needs to ensure patient satisfaction. Affirms the patient's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law. Successfully completes life-span education as appropriate. Obtains a complete nursing history and baseline assessment that is systematic, consistent and continuous. This assessment is communicated effectively utilizing Hand-off policy and documented. Documents results of patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care plan nursing interventions and evaluation and patient progress in medical record according to hospital/nursing policy and the Nursing Standards of Care/Practice for the specific patient type. Appropriately analyzes patient information /assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and needs for appropriate nursing care, medical intervention or services of other clinical professionals. Identifies patient problems and formulates nursing diagnosis according to physical, psychological, spiritual/cultural and educational needs in conjunction with a multi disciplinary approach. Consistently includes patient and family in the development of an individualized plan of care. Administers medication as needed following CSHS policies and manufacturer's instructions. Takes immediate and appropriate actions in the event of a medication variance occurrence. Recognizes changes in patient condition and/or emergency situations and takes immediate and appropriate actions. Participates in unit conferences to discuss quality issues and quality improvement strategies. Offers ideas to improve processes for patient safety. Delegates components of care to non-professional caregivers as appropriate. Follows up on any delegated components of care and assignments given. Makes decisions that demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice; utilizes sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in the care of patients and in the coordination of care to assure the best patient outcomes. Follows CSHS Pain Assessment policy. Successfully functions as a Resource Nurse, making decisions in the absence of the Clinical Leader and/or the Nurse Manager. Supports cost containment through efficient use of equipment, supplies and other pertinent resources. Recognizes adverse reaction to medications and takes immediate and appropriate action. Evaluates the patient's needs for discharge and accesses appropriate resources for the patient and/or family. Consistently provides written and verbal education to patients and/or families. Successfully functions as a preceptor/mentor to students and new staff members. Consistently promotes teamwork within the unit and between departments. Consistently adheres to hospital policy regarding the insertion, maintenance and removal of foley catheters, if applicable. Able to verbalize and demonstrate proper rationale and techniques surrounding all aspects of indwelling urinary catheter care as per policy #4668. Fulfills the requirements for competencies and completion of annual mandatories surrounding indwelling urinary catheters. Scrubs in for cases as needed, following AORN protocols. As circulator, demonstrates an ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and possible need for additional instruments and supplies. Supports operations by demonstrating ability and willingness to float between units as an RN and provides 1:1 patient observation when deemed necessary Qualifications Associate’s degree in Nursing required Bachelor's degree in Nursing required within 3 years of hire. Graduate of CSMC Residency program, OR Minimum of 1 year LDRP RN experience required, OR 2 years RN experience in Med/Surg or Critical Care. Related experience preferred. Current NJ RN License required. CPR Certification required. ACLS required prior to starting Labor and Delivery orientation. CSMC IV Certification to be achieved within the first year and maintained thereafter. NRP Certification to be achieved within the first year and maintained thereafter. Basic Fetal Monitoring to be achieved within the first year and maintained thereafter. Specialty professional nursing certification preferred. Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures to include the patient’s cardiovascular system, respiratory system and airway management needs, neurological system, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status. Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors. Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes. Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions. Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer ( e.g. , Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score [ i.e. , PARSAP], Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System [PADSS], White) score accurately as defined by organizational policy. Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care. Implement the plan of care including the following interventions: Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – general.
