School Nurse

Scope: The School Nurse provides health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. The School Nurse also supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students. Major Responsibilities: Delivers nursing and health services according to nursing practice standards. Coordinates and delivers health care needs of students. Administers medications according to developed protocols and follows all state mandated policies concerning medication administration. Ensures a safe environment by properly storing all medications and supplies in the health office. Provides initial health care for on-job injuries and submits appropriate paperwork in a timely manner. Maintains standards of school nursing practice which includes collection of data, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, triage and delegation. Develops individual health care plan (ICHP) when needed with specific goals, nursing diagnosis, and interventions delineating school-nursing actions unique to students' needs and for incorporation into the student's individualized educational plan (IEP) and / or 504 plan. Intervenes as guided by the nursing care plan to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain or restore health, prevent illness and effect rehabilitation. Empowers and supports students as they learn to advocate for themselves regarding their health care needs. Provides health education and consultation to staff, students and families as needed. Communicates and collaborates with community providers of services for students. Writes and maintains cumulative health records for each student, health office records, monthly statistics, and other reports and documentation consistent with nursing care/individualized health care plans/IEPs and Federal, State and local mandates. Serves as a member of school teams as designated health care professional (e.g., Crisis Teams, PPT, Section 504), as appropriate. Collaborates with staff and parents to facilitate a better understanding of how a child's health needs may impact their educational plan. Participates in nursing department meetings and attends school based meetings - faculty, open house, PTA/PTO - as appropriate. Adheres to Board of Education, Pupil Personnel, and school policies and Nursing Practice Standards. Attends and participates in professional development programs and demonstrates willingness to update skills and practice. Assists students with toileting needs, if necessary. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary and required by Administrator(s) or designee. Skill requirements: Solid knowledge base and skill in the understanding of human growth and development of children and adolescents. Excellent personal, professional, and organizational skills to manage a diverse workload and work cooperatively and collaboratively with superiors and colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary team. Overview The Department of Pediatrics at Dartmouth Health Children’s is seeking a full time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our team of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and Neonatologists. We are looking for pediatric providers to join our neonatal hospitalist team at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH. The team is open to an FNP with newborn experience or a primary care PNP for this role. The Birth Center of Nashua at St. Joseph Hospital provides labor and delivery services as well as Level I nursery care for around 600 families annually, and is designated as a Baby Friendly hospital. Their spacious unit allows personalized and state-of-the-art obstetric, post-partum, and well-baby care. The role includes hospital-based coverage 24/7 at St. Joseph Hospital. The pediatric APP will be responsible for the primary care of a caseload of well-babies, attend high-risk deliveries, serve as team leader in neonatal resuscitations and stabilization of sick infants awaiting transfer. Successful candidates will have experience with pediatrics, in either an inpatient or outpatient setting, and ideally will have experience attending high-risk deliveries and providing initial stabilization in the immediate postnatal period. Opportunities for training to expand skill set to stabilization of acutely ill infants for transport will be provided by the Dartmouth Health neonatal team. The position reports to the St. Joseph Hospital pediatric hospitalist APP Lead and the Section Chief of Neonatology. Job Description We are searching for an Inpatient Registered Nurse for the PACU department -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. Job Duties & Responsibilities Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight and reason for visit Prepares patient for examination per site protocol Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of site Administers medication and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol Documents administration of medication and immunizations in the medical record per site protocol Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol Documents such education in the medical record Coordinates referrals Triages presenting patient complaint per site protocol Verifies provider order and patient per site protocol Collects and processes specimen according to manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
