When you join PPGNY as a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide direct clinical care across a full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, abortion care, colposcopy, and LEEP. As a key member of the interdisciplinary team, this role requires flexibility to rotate across PPGNY health centers. You will practice within the full scope of New York State RN licensure and in accordance with PPGNY standards of care. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SRH Clinical Care and ICA Patient Care (90%) · Reviews the patient health history for completeness and records findings. Alerts APC regarding critical information about the patient’s chief complaint, history of present illness, and other current or past medical or social problems. · Provides care to patients receiving family planning, abortion, colposcopy, LEEP, and other GYN services according to PPGNY medical policies and procedures under the direction of APC, or physician. · Provide direct nursing care throughout the abortion care continuum—pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure—including preparation, continuous monitoring, and recovery. Assist in the procedure room and recovery area, ensuring clinical stability and emotional support for patients. Administer and monitor medications used to induce sedation in accordance with PPGNY protocols and RN scope of practice. Ensure safe, timely documentation, patient education, and post-sedation evaluation. · Accurately documents and administers medications as ordered by the provider and provides associated teaching. · Documents competently in the electronic medical record using the correct PPGNY templates and forms. · Arranges for interpreters for patients with communication barriers. · Collaborates with members of a multi-disciplinary health care team & provides care within New York State RN scope of practice. · Assists in promoting optimum center operations, excellent patient service and compliance with both agency and funding source policies and regulations. · Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established goals for productivity. · Adheres to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints. · Assists in the orientation and training of new RN/LPN or unlicensed medical personnel on the center team as needed. · Performs other educational and experience related duties as required. · Assists in abortion service in a variety of functions including abortion counseling, · Provides health education and nursing care related to family planning, reproductive health, abortion service, transgender health services, and STI’s to all clients. · Provide accurate patient centered, non-judgmental, education according to MS&G and signs informed consent related to visit. · Performs laboratory tests as ordered, completes laboratory requisitions, packages labs for transport according to PPGNY lab procedures. Performs daily controls per lab protocols. · Follows all safety and security procedures and guidelines. · Participates in agency infection prevention and quality control initiatives and protocols. · Notifies patients of laboratory results and educates regarding clinician plan for follow up. · Screens and follows up on patient phone calls in collaboration with center APC or PPGNY physicians. Maintenance of Clinical Skills and Competencies (10%) · Maintain licensure, certifications, and competencies in abortion care and reproductive health as required by PPGNY, PPFA, NYS DOH. Participates in regular competency checks and training for all new services, tests, and skills as assigned. Performs and maintains job duties within scope of practice based on RN competencies, NYS Licensure, BLS, ACLS, PPFA Privileging and/or specific education and training. Prior healthcare employment TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Frequent standing, walking, bending. Must be able to walk up and down stairs. Requires lifting or moving of patients/supplies/equipment. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. As a Nurse Practitioner you will: • Diagnosis and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses within the ARNP scope of practice. Monitor course of treatment and make referrals to other health care providers as necessary. Coordination of care/case management as indicated, including collaboration with medical consultants and other healthcare/rehabilitation providers, attorneys, the employee’ supervisor, and the employee. • Diagnosis and treatment of non-work-related injury and illness that requires limited follow up and fall under ARNP scope of practice. • Fitness for duty evaluation and screening, including modified duty and appropriate restrictions as warranted by evaluation, unable to work and return to work protocols. • Conditions which therapy may be initiated by the ARNP. • Musculoskeletal: Strains and sprains, sciatica, inflammation, effusions, non-displaced fractures, contusions, or other conditions which the ARNP has been educated to treat. • Dermatologic conditions: Dermatitis, fungal or bacterial infections, puncture wounds, lacerations, abrasions, burns including first and second degree and other conditions which the ARNP has been educated to treat. • Infectious disease: Prevention, monitoring and treatment of infections which the ARNP has been educated to treat. • Conjunctivitis, corneal abrasion, non-imbedded foreign bodies of the eye. • Any other minor chronic problem or illness which the ARNP has been educated to treat. • Treatments that may be initiated by the ARNP: • Diet, activity, exercises, counseling, education, safety and general health promotion and maintenance activities. • Routine and emergent laboratory studies including culture and sensitivities, physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiometry and any other lab test determined to be medically necessary. Xray testing for diagnosis of fractures, infections and skeletal dislocation. • Application of splints, immobilizers, slings, ice or heat therapy. • ACLS protocol may be initiated to the full extent of available equipment depending on client condition and judgement of the ARNP at the particular time and situation. • Pharmacologic measures the ARNP may initiate, dispense, monitor and alter or order: • Over the counter drugs. • Prescription drugs in the following categories: • Anti-inflammatories, non-steroidal and steroidal antibiotics and antimicrobials (oral, topical, and injectable), non-narcotic analgesia, vaccinations, laxatives, emergency drugs per ACLS protocol, antihistamines, antiemetics, local anesthesia both topical and injectable, antispasmodics, bronchial dilators, metered dose inhalation therapies, anti-tussive, decongestants, expectorants, optic and ophthalmologic preparations including cerumen softeners, antibiotics, steroids, and anesthetics, topical steroids, anti-fungal; creams, lotions, and ointments, muscle relaxants, antihypertensives, diuretics, oral hypoglycemics, and injectable hypoglycemics, injectable insulin preparations, thyroid replacement therapy, vitamin therapy, Iron therapy and antacids. • Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrate accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the standards and initiatives set by the department. • Follows CDC isolation guidelines, infection control practices, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, conducts handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.
