Location BBC Bronson Battle Creek Title Registered Nurse - Pre-Op/Post-Op/PACU - PRN - Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, the unit, and the Michigan Public Health Code, the registered nurse manages the care delivery for patients in the organization throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by the following: utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation; coordinating the care provided by other professionals; delegating selected acts, tasks or functions that fall within the scope of professional nursing practice and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants; providing selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given the patient's level of acuity and complexity of care required; and documenting and communicating during each tour of duty the patient's response to care provided, consumption of resources and anticipated needs. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Associate's degree in Nursing required Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan As of December 29, 2013, any nurse hired by Bronson who does not hold a BSN (or higher nursing degree) will be given 8 years from date of hire date to obtain. If, after 8 years, the nurse has not met this requirement, employment will be terminated. BLS certification required by completion of core orientation Critical care or ALS is required for some RNs, unit specific RNs in Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at BMH & BBC Specific : The Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification through PQF or NCC is required within 6 months of completing intermediate fetal monitoring • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action • Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Identifies missing equipment and/or supplies and makes arrangements to acquire those supplies. o Applies knowledge of operative procedure and physician preferences by anticipating physicians' needs. o Observant of overt changes in patient's condition that indicates a problem has emerged. o Evaluates and updates case information, i.e., preference cards, broken or misplaced equipment, back-ordered supplies, and recommended changes in procedure. o Remains aware of the proper use of equipment and instruments, and discourages improper use and handling by co-workers & physicians. o Is observant of the changing needs of the operative field and the surgical team, anticipates potential needs, and takes appropriate actions. o Acts as the specialist and resource for circulators who may be unfamiliar with positioning devices, specialty equipment, and/or implants needed. o Assigned and responsible for after-hour call on a rotational basis. o Ability to perform scrub duties in multiple services; ie: neuro and ortho STII able to perform spinal fusions in bother services. Job Description Under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse (AN) or Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing skilled and comprehensive nursing care to radiation oncology patients with a wide variety of oncological and/or disease-related problems seen for consultation, treatment, and follow-up. Through application of the nursing process, the RN provides direct care and implements plans for continuity and coordination of patient care with other members of the patient’s health care team. In collaboration with the AN, the nurse provides appropriate guidance and supervision for ancillary nursing personnel and participates in orientation of new medical and/or technical personnel. Responsibilities include compliance with Medical Center and departmental Policies and Procedures, Environmental Safety, House and Telephone Standards, and compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. Job Description Under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse (AN) or Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing skilled and comprehensive nursing care to radiation oncology patients with a wide variety of oncological and/or disease-related problems seen for consultation, treatment, and follow-up. Through application of the nursing process, the RN provides direct care and implements plans for continuity and coordination of patient care with other members of the patient’s health care team. In collaboration with the AN, the nurse provides appropriate guidance and supervision for ancillary nursing personnel and participates in orientation of new medical and/or technical personnel. Serves as a resource for other nurses by answering their questions about nursing protocols and providing information about where to seek additional information for in their professional development such as the use of online learning platforms. Models appropriate interaction with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their family members, and with staff members. Provides input to nurse manager and other supervisors to assist in the evaluation of employee performance. Responds to emergency situations to ensure safety of individuals. Performs CPR, suctioning, and other emergency procedures as directed by physician/PCP/protocol. Administers emergency medications as prescribed. Demonstrates a working knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment. Recognizes and coaches appropriate Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) procedures. Provides treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment. Performs related work as assigned. Serves as resource/mentor to other nurses. Cross-trains other registered nurse(s) to back–up as RN Shift Supervisor, as needed. Provides back-up coverage for nursing activities on an as-needed basis. For example, as needed, assists in lab to draw blood samples as per scheduled time periods, etc. Collects specimens for laboratory examination and conducts appropriate screening tests (after competency is documented) as requested by lab personnel. Actively participates in, and prepares for in advance, essential meetings related to care of persons served in order to manage and coordinate health care to achieve optimal health. Updates necessary items in the automated system(s) and other tracking documents and takes the necessary action to communicate information to other disciplines. Participates in competency-based training and continuing education activities and meetings to maintain competence in nursing best practice. Demonstrates knowledge of safety and infection control practices to ensure a safe working environment. Complies with state mandated continuing education to maintain licensure as a registered nurse. Follows information security protocols in order to maintain the accuracy and confidentiality of consumer records. Complies with all State/Federal/Local standards; Facility Policy, ICF Standards, and Texas Nurse Practice Act. by following standard precautions to minimize cross contamination. Must have strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR., and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications: Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Initial Screening Criteria: At least one (1) year experience as a practicing registered nurse is required. At least two (2) years of experience as a practicing registered nurse in a health agency, hospital, or health-care facility is preferred. Bachelor's Degree is preferred. Previous experience working with Individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is preferred. Nursing supervisory experience is preferred.
