Nurse Practitioner - Pediatric ICU

Job Description UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care, known for innovation, technology and compassionate care. UCSF has one of the top children's hospitals in the nation, according to a ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Our 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery). Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated. Nurse Practitioners on the PICU and TCUP Team provide care in rotating 12h shifts. Position Summary Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Nursing is responsible for the administration and management of the nursing department to residents in accordance with orders of the physicians and total needs of the residents. Responsible for 24-hour supervision of the nursing department and direction to the nursing department to maintain quality standards of care in accordance with current Federal, State and Company standards, guidelines and regulations. In absence of the Administrator, assumes the responsibility for the facility. The position conducts the nursing process – assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation – under the scope of the State’s Nurse Practice Act of Registered Nurse licensure. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assumes ultimate responsibility for coordinating plans for the total care of each resident which comply with physician’s orders, governmental regulations and facility resident care policies; · Develops, maintains and upgrades nursing department objectives, standards for nursing practice, nursing procedure manuals and written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel. · Participates in the recruitment, selection, hiring, orientation, training and dismissal of nursing personnel. Maintains the Maternal Child Health Services mission, philosophy, and policies as well as the standards and practices of the Medical Center. Responsibilities 1. The midwife performs functions as an integrated member of the Department of OB/GYN and Nursing. The midwife will: Coordinate prenatal care to the caseload of patients in the ambulatory care setting. 2. Take pertinent history. Perform physical & pelvic examination. Obtain laboratory and diagnostic tests. Provide counseling & teaching as needed. 3. Identify risk factors and develop appropriate plan of management. Job Description Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Nurse Care Coordinator for Pediatric Electrophysiology works autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient settings. At Sutter Medical Center, we currently have two Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeons and one Physician Assistant that work with a team of PICU intensivists, Pediatric cardiologists, and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologists to take care of both complex cardiac patients, such as babies with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, and less complex patients, such as patients with atrial or ventricular septal defects. We also work with our Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program to care for adult patients when they need additional surgery. Duties include consults in conjugation with the surgeons, intraoperative first and second assist, post-operative surgical rounding, and post operative outpatient appointments. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
