We care for patients with a variety of illnesses who are cared for primarily by Internal Hospitalist Specialists. Diagnoses include respiratory problems such as pneumonia, flu, and various lung diseases, abdominal pain sometimes requiring surgery, infections, and urinary tract infections. Summary: Assume responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice is a newly licensed new to practice RN or RN with less than 15 months of experience that demonstrates basic safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice seeks guidance to integrate concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice exhibits Penn Medicine’s experience standards which reflect its mission and are embedded in the professional practice competency domains. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice is accountable for the provision of direct care to patients who may range in age from infancy to the elderly and demonstrates within the competency domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Teamwork and Technology Informatics. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice works closely with the interprofessional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients. Completes mandatory education and training that includes review of age-specific needs, caring behaviors, and interpersonal skills as defined by unit based Plan for Provision of Care. Maintains a safe working environment through compliance with established evidence-based practice policies and procedures and timely reporting of safety variances. Participates in the on-call responsibilities for this position as required. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications: RN licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSN or higher level nursing degree is required. New hires who start their employment with a temporary practice permit must sit for their NCLEX within 60 days of starting in their RN role. A graduate registered nurse may only practice professional nursing under supervision and if the graduate registered nurse holds a current temporary practice permit. Supervision means that a licensed registered nurse is physically present in the area or unit where the graduate registered nurse is practicing. All Clinical Nurse 1 RN’s will be required to successfully complete the Nurse Residency Program. Functions as a patient and family advocate. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his or her assigned unit/department. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/ or nurse clinician. Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department. Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses the data reflective of the patient’s status, and interprets the necessary information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs. Coordinates the care and delegates as appropriate to other team members on a defined group of patients. Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards. This includes but is not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills. Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care. Practices effective problem identification and resolution. Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the team member’s capabilities and qualifications. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other health care team members. Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights. Collaborates with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members and/or students. Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health and Orlando Health policies and procedures. Partners with the nursing leadership team to identify professional development needs. Qualifications Education/Training: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and assigned unit/department. Licensure/Certification: Maintains current State of Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.
