Bean 2 is a fast-paced 12-bed Total Joint Center. This position offers the R6/B2 RN an opportunity to care for a diverse patient population in a supportive environment as an integral member of a collaborative team of highly trained staff. The R6 patient population includes adults and older adolescents with neurological and orthopedic conditions including closed head injuries, strokes, brain tumors, seizure disorders, multi-traumas, and conditions requiring neurosurgical intervention. RNs providing care in the R6 IMC demonstrate astute assessment and critical thinking skills, as patients in IMC often have multi-system issues that require telemetry monitoring, intra-cranial pressure monitoring, medication drips, frequent intervention, or other higher acuity care needs. The Bean 2 patient population consists of adults who have undergone joint replacement surgeries. This unit serves as the Joint Center for our nationally recognized and Joint Commission accredited joint replacement program. The RN on Bean 2 coordinates important milestones of care for each patient’s visit to facilitate a timely and safe discharge. Provides care/ treatments to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to, the measurement of vital signs, height and weight, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive 11 patient and family interactions. 6. Provides direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care for routine activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation. 7. Provides indirect care to patients and assigned area to include, but not limited to, cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, assisting in the orientation of new employees and students, and some routine clerical functions. 8. Reinforces routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers.
