As a Cardiac Pediatric Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), working under the supervision of attending anesthesiologists, you will play a vital role in providing professional nursing services by administering anesthesia primarily to pediatric surgery patients under the age of 18. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of anesthesia to pediatric patients with and without congenital heart disease. In this role, you will work closely with the anesthesia team including anesthesiology assistants, resident physicians, UT approved students, surgical team and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to the specific needs of each pediatric patient. You will collaborate with attending anesthesiologists to prepare and administer anesthetic agents, carefully monitor patients' vital signs and bodily functions, and adjust anesthesia levels as necessary throughout medical or surgical procedures. Your commitment to patient safety, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure will be essential as you navigate complex cases and manage any potential complications that may arise. A minimum of 6 months of work experience in anesthetizing pediatric patients is desirable. Opportunity to onboarding will be provided. Position Key Accountabilities: Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients in order to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures. 2. Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient in order to ascertain physiological and psychological factors which influence the selection of anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management. 3. Monitors the patient in the operating room, outside locations (diagnostic imaging, endoscopy suites) and pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory in order to maintain the patients in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient. 4. Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record. 5. Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students in order to contribute to their clinical training. 6. Responds to emergency situations. 7. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred Certification/Skills: Competency in the placement of pediatric airway devices, and vascular access and understands or can interpret varied pressure monitoring and lab values. Responsibilities* Provide anesthesia and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic and/or surgical procedures to all patients regardless of age under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, working collaboratively in a team environment. Prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations. Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the anesthesiologist. Initiate and maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care. Maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation. Complete postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies. Participate in ongoing projects. Support perioperative providers. Other duties or projects as assigned. Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines. Maintain licensure, certification, credentialing, and current BLS and ACLS or PALS status at all times. This position requires radiation exposure and the requirement to wear the appropriate (PPE) personal protective equipment. Must be able to fulfill required weekend obligations. Must be self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Required Qualifications* Current and accurate resume and application must be completed. Minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program. Current, or ability to obtain, Michigan RN license and certification as a nurse anesthetist prior to hire. Current BLS, ACLS and/or PALS certification. Wear the appropriate (PPE) personal protective equipment as this position requires radiation exposure and the requirement to wear the appropriate PPE. Work in a myriad of anesthetizing locations. Anesthesiologists are performing anesthesia interviews, placing central lines, placing peripheral nerve blocks, and are readily available for assistance during cases. They routinely come in for induction and emergence. Optional for CRNA’s to perform own spinals in OB. Optional CRNAs to do epidurals. All case types performed except transplants. Limited pediatrics at the main. A good mix of healthy surgery center peds cases. Wide range of general, cardiac, ortho, neuro, GYN, urology, podiatry, ENT, endoscopy, and robotic services. Job Description To provide anesthesia under the direction of an anesthesiologist for diverse surgical procedures and diagnostic tests or cardio-thoracic surgical procedures and cardiac catheterizations. To participate in clinical instruction of nurse anesthesia students. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Currently certified with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Currently certified with Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required. Currently certified with Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required. Overview POSITION SUMMARY: ​The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist completes preopperative patient assesments and prepares and maintains necessary tools and resources for procedures. Responsible for evaluation of anesthetic agents used for patients before, during, and after procedures. Actively observe and assess patients throughout the course of procedures and ensures safe patient emergence from anesthetic. Performs supplemental anesthesia duties in situations as needed and directed by anesthesiologist. JOB SPECIFICS: Saint James -John W. Albrecht Medical Center has 3 ORs and 2 Procedure Rooms We have a mix of GI, Gen Surg, Ortho, and Podiatry. We also perform simple gyne and cataracts once a month. Our typical volume depends on the day. GI days are typically higher volume than Ortho/Gen Surg days. Overall, we average about 7-12 cases/day. Regional experience is preferred but our highly skilled teams will train you.
