Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary Position functions as a Medical Assistant in the department, prepares and maintains exam rooms, prepares charts, obtains reports and records; assists with patient flow and ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Patient Care Duties: Interacts directly with patients in clinic setting and completes clinical tasks, which may include obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing a phlebotomy and verifying medications. Completes necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner. Answers basic questions from patient/family regarding treatments, diagnosis and procedures. May complete requisitions/orders per WashU guidelines. Equipment and Supplies: Monitors supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies, equipment or garments are available and that they comply with regulations. Cleans and stocks exam rooms and sterilizes instruments. Other Functions: Maintains required HIPAA compliance, maintains skills/competencies and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education and cross-training programs according to established standards and WashU policies. Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a Case by -case basis. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids. Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
