The person in this role will be the first to respond to a stat or rapid call, access port, monitor pace makers, etc. Nuclear medicine nurse responsibilities include: Cardiac stress perfusion studies on mostly adults but also on children Stress testing in the PET departmentMost of the nuclear stress testing is done on inpatients. We generally use Regadenoson, Adenosine, Dobutamine or treadmills to accomplish this. We do Viability studies in PET to test for hibernating myocardium using high dose insulin gtts combined with glucose and potassium. We do brain mappings/ stress with Diamox or adenosine. Nurses perform sarcoid studies in PET using heparin. We monitor mapping patients after procedures in Interventional Radiology. Coronary CTAs are done regularly utilizing metoprolol IV, diltiazem IV and nitroglycerin. Help thyroid cancer patients with prepping them for Iodine therapies and testing. We teach the nuclear medicine students the patient care curriculum in the allied health program. The main topics are direct patient care, vital signs, and EKG rhythm interpretation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum. Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
