Advanced Practice Provider, Critical Care

Overview Overview: The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) demonstrates the knowledge and clinical expertise necessary to manage the care of critically ill adult patients. The APP functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary critical care team, working in close collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care. Responsibilities include evaluating and treating acute illnesses and injuries, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, and performing invasive procedures in accordance with established protocols, policies, and evidence-based practice standards. The APP participates in the assessment and management of new admissions to the critical care unit and provides expert education, consultation, and patient advocacy to ensure optimal outcomes. Three 12-hour shifts per week. Qualifications Qualifications: Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987 Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics. Overview Plans, directs, and evaluates patient health care. Provides advanced practice nurse support to patients, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. Assist with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitate the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitate staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Performs other duties as requested. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing, master’s degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. Experience: Minimum three (3) years nursing experience required. At least one (1) year as nurse practitioner experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Epic Software preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills. Current competency and knowledge of standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice. Demonstrated excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization. Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
