Overview Our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 8-bed high acuity unit that provides complex monitoring and treatment of adult cardiac patients. CICU receives patients from the Cath Lab, ED, and Acute Care areas who require specialized cardiac care. Nurses must exhibit high levels of professional competency. The nurses work to collaborate with all disciplines of the care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, and directs quality, compassionate care by maintaining standards of professional nursing practice and creating positive therapeutic relationships with patients/families. Assesses condition on each assigned patient on admission and on an ongoing basis to include but not limited to the patient’s physical condition, psychological status, social status, spiritual and cultural needs, pain assessment/management, nutritional and functional status, developmental or age related factors, and discharge planning needs. Documents nursing history in EMR and physical assessment for assigned patients and initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the physician. Abstracts patient records via the EMR. May sort or do chart prep on occasion but not as a routine part of the position. Uses other EMR functions such as tasking, messaging, and disease management. Uses Centricity and other software as appropriate to support nursing functions. Responds to emergency situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Maintains crash cart and defibrillator. Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : Under supervision, provides professional nursing care to patients/clients within an assigned unit.
