Responsibilities Job Subfamily Infusion Oncology and Huntsman Acute Care nurses deliver direct bedside care to patients receiving intravenous cancer therapies and supportive treatments in outpatient infusion and acute care settings. Their practice is characterized by real‑time monitoring of patients during treatment, early identification and management of infusion‑related complications, and rapid response to high‑risk events such as hypersensitivity reactions, extravasation, and other oncologic emergencies. As nurses progress, they manage increasingly complex therapies and unstable patient presentations while supporting safe treatment delivery across the infusion and acute care continuum. Advanced levels reflect deep technical expertise, independent clinical decision‑making, and bedside leadership in high‑risk treatment environments. Career Level N2: Provides care to patients in structured environments. Performs established nursing interventions using current clinical knowledge. Begins mentoring and supporting peers. Essential Functions Independently manages care for a typical infusion oncology patient caseload. Administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive treatments following established protocols. Recognizes and escalates abnormal reactions or complications beyond expected patterns. Provides patient and family education on treatment regimens, side effects, and home care. Participates in care for clinical trial patients and follows protocol-specific requirements. Prioritizes patient care and manages workflow within the infusion setting. Communicates patient status and treatment updates with interdisciplinary teams. Serves as an informal resource for staff on routine infusion workflows and treatments. Maintains accurate documentation and adheres to oncology safety standards. At the discretion of department operational and patient care needs, this position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system. Additional Information About the Role 5900 is a unique 30 bed unit that provides care to female patients hospitalized for female related issues, with the primary focus on GYN Oncology. An RN in this position is given the opportunity to train on an array of Med Surg floors, Telemetry units and high acuity settings within Maine’s only Magnet designated hospital and level 1 Trauma Center. The assortment of floors and units an RN could potentially be assigned to may give way to opportunity to practice in highly sought after specialties once trained on multiple units, including pediatrics and Mother/Baby care, that may not otherwise be available at the time of hire. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs) Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred. License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine. Experience: As this is an entry-level position, experience as an RN is not required. Med/surg experience preferred. Basic knowledge of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing. Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and health care team members. Analytical ability sufficient to identify changes in patients' conditions and to initiate appropriate action. All new graduate RNs (less than 6 months of RN experience) hired into regular status positions are automatically enrolled in our 12-month Nurse Residency Program in conjunction with their unit based employment. For RNs with less than 1 year of RN experience transferring from another organization with RN experience and/or participation in a formal new graduate nurse orientation program, consideration for exceptions to some or all Maine Medical Center Nurse Residency Program requirements may be made on an individual basis. 8.
