Position Summary Administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient setting where patients have an advanced illness or injury that routinely requires timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support the patient’s medical condition. Experience Minimum of one year RN experience, prefer in a Cath Lab setting Responsibilities Essential Functions Demonstrates critical knowledge, skills, and judgement to care for patients requiring complex assessment and therapies, high intensity interventions, and high-level continuous nursing vigilance. Utilizes information and assessment data to anticipate and respond with confidence and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions. Identifies and prioritizes information to take immediate and decisive evidence-based, patient focused action. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records electronic displays, such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms from cardiac monitors, respirators,ventilators, oxygen pumps, etc. Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Observes, monitors, and assesses patients’ condition, recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious situations and calls Physician or takes preplanned emergency measures when Physician is not immediately available. Assesses patient’s needs and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based on patient needs and responses. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes. Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers. Functions as a patient and family advocate. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit/ department. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/ or nurse clinician.Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department. Serves as a role model for staff and supports the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses the data reflective of the patient’s status, and interprets the necessary information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. Coordinates the care and delegates as appropriate to other team members on a defined group of patients. Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards. This includes but is not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit/department-specific requisite skills. Prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care. Practices effective problem identification and resolution. Delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the team member’s capabilities and qualifications. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other health care team members.Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights. Collaborates with the education department and nursing leadership team to effectively transition and support new team members and/or students. Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions The professional nurse contributes to the knowledge and skills of others, and the continuous improvement of the quality of health care practice and organizational outcomes. Overview: The APP Fellow will work within a Critical Care team under the direction of an APP and a Physician to provide comprehensive and consistent care for critically ill patients in a hospital setting. The Fellow will gain experience in assessing, diagnosing, and managing care, selecting interventions, performing required procedures, and consistently evaluating patients' progress toward medical goals. Responsibilities: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with cardiac or multi-system failure, within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient's physician. 2. Obtains patient health histories and completes physical examinations and documents findings in accordance with hospital requirements. 3. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patients' family, staff, and healthcare learners. 4. Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon the patient's clinical status and documents procedures in accordance with hospital requirements; assists the physician with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, etc. 5. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and external cardiac massage; airway management including bag and mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation and extubation, ordering of life supporting drugs according to established protocols, and defibrillation according to Advanced Cardiac Life Support standards. 6. May perform thoracentesis, thoracostomy tube, and bronchoscopy, as well as other indicated procedures while under the direct supervision of an intensivist until independent competency is confirmed. 7. Under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital, inserts and manages arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, Chest tubes, thoracenteses, endotracheal tubes, and extra glottic devices. Interfaces with patients using monitoring and instrumentation equipment, and directs and educates others in performing these functions. 8. Formulates and implements a treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the attending physician(s) and documents in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries. 9. Assesses patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize the patient. 10. Incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care. 11. Supports IRB-approved clinical research/trials through a variety of activities, including but not limited to: obtaining consent; ordering diagnostic tests; recording laboratory and diagnostic results; administering therapeutic interventions; and documenting and reporting patient outcomes, including toxicities or adverse events. 12. Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research. 13. Serves as a clinical expert and education consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team, and the larger community. 14. Identifies educational needs of the family and participates in teaching opportunities. 15. Assesses educational needs, plans, provides, and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community. 16. Other duties as assigned. What You Will Do: We are currently searching for a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide support to the staff and patients on the unit. Qualified candidates will work independently providing resource information and general nursing care to patients. Completes clerical tasks related to regulatory annual requirements, audits and patient processes. What You Will Need: WI Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) - active or expired on registry Must have a strong interest in customer service, able to multi task, work independently with little supervision.
