About this Job: General Summary of Position The incumbent in this position functions as a consultant practitioner and educator for patients, staff and physicians concerning problems with inpatients or outpatients with ostomies fistulas/draining wounds pressure wounds and incontinence care. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provides consultation to patients, staff and physicians relating to preoperative postoperative and routine care of ostomies fistulas/draining wounds pressure wounds and incontinence care. Provides preoperative counseling to the patient/family direct care to patients for ostomy skin and incontinence problems and outpatient follow-up and care as needed. Assesses the need for selects methodologies strategies content resources and conducts/implements patient education and staff training programs. Determines and evaluates ostomy skin and incontinent care products to be stocked for Hospital use. Participates in research and other educational programs/projects relevant to the area of specialty and/or profession as requested. Generates reports patient records and course documentation according to departmental guidelines. Maintains and develops knowledge base and skills in the area of wound ostomy and continence therapy. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures; attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. Develops strategies to market and maximize utilization of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse. Schedule Monday - Friday 4 Days or 5 Days/week Qualifications Graduate of a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse program that is accredited by the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse Society required BSN, from an accredited School of Nursing required. Master's degree in nursing preferred A minimum of two years of professional practice as a nurse which includes experience in direct patient care. leadership experience in a clinical setting. demonstrated teaching experience with children and adults required Active DC RN license and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers required (AHA or American Red Cross) CWOCN - Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse by the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board required Nursing Benefits Nationally recognized nurse wellbeing resources Magnet designated since 2004. As part of a cohesive and highly specialized APS team, the NP will play a vital role in advancing pain management practices while working closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary care teams in a hospital setting. This role offers a high-impact clinical experience within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, serving a diverse patient population across a wide range of complex surgical services. Position Overview The Nurse Practitioner will function as a clinical consultant within a multidisciplinary team, managing both acute and chronic pain for hospitalized patients. Key responsibilities include: Rounding daily on new and established patients Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and perioperative evaluations Performing histories and physicals (H&Ps), interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing care plans Prescribing and managing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain treatments Managing epidural and peripheral nerve catheters Documenting clinical findings in progress notes Educating patients and families on pain management strategies Providing pain management education and serving as a clinical resource for healthcare team members across the institution Position will include mandatory 6-8 weeks of initial, comprehensive training at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Full-Time Schedule (1.0FTE): Monday – Friday, (5) 8s, daytime hours from 9:00am-5:00pm; no weeknights, weekend or on-call responsibilities.
