Medical Assistant (Care Promoter) - Early Embrace

The Care Promoter 1 is an unlicensed medical professional cross-trained to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical centers running smoothly. The duties of Care Promoter 1 vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location and type. In addition to administrative duties, Care Promoters perform clinical duties under direct physician supervision in accordance with state medical practice acts. The Care Promoter 1 is an integral member of a Physician-lead Care Team that is focused on providing excellent and comprehensive primary care for a specific population of patients. ​ ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Measures and records patient vital signs; records patient interview and medical history. Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel. Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests; assists physician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patient. Observes patients and reports any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel. Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens; performs basic waived lab tests. Prepares and administers medications; changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures; uses CPR skills when necessary, all under physician supervision. Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments; practices OSHA safety standards; performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times. Processes patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them to other team members as appropriate; calls patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician. Upon physician approval and authorization, calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy. Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology; and follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system to support physician medication dispensing. Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls. Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion. Hillcrest Hospital’s 3 West Tower Complex Medical Care is a 46- bed unit known for its outstanding communication skills and top-quality patient care. This unit cares for adult and geriatric patients undergoing general, breast, gynecology, pancreatic/liver, and urology surgeries. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), your primary duties will include providing or assisting with basic patient care under the supervision of an RN, reporting abnormal findings and changes in patients’ condition and keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly. This is an excellent opportunity to receive hands-on experience while providing exceptional care to our patients, ensuring the best health outcomes. A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. with every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter. Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN. Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience. Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross within new hire period *Nursing students must obtain prior to hire Competencies in both the professional, technical and clinical knowledge domains must be demonstrated in a safe, effective and efficient manner Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at minimum junior high level Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Physical Requirements: Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
