This multidisciplinary team—including nurses, attendings, social workers, case managers, respiratory therapists, and Child Life specialists—partners on care management, nursing interventions, and discharge planning. The patient to RN ratio is typically 4:1. A Clinical Nurse in the Seasonal Staffing Program performs Nursing duties, as assigned, throughout certain times of the year in which CHOP's operational needs require additional Nursing staff due to high volumes and acuity ("Concentrated Period"), and flex down to no, or limited, scheduled shifts during other times of the year ("Quiet Period"). The Express Admit Unit (EXAU) is under the management of the CDU. There are 6-bed areas where the admitted patients stay until a floor bed is available. This gives them privacy and care while waiting for their room to be available. Both CDU and EXAU can have patients on telemetry for cardiac monitoring.
