A Brief Overview There are two units within cardiac intermediate care. These units p rovide intermediate level care to patients with congenital and acquired heart disease as well as those with primary rhythm abnormalities. Patients include medical and surgical cardiac patients with an age range typically spanning newborns to young adults. Units may also care for patients under local subspecialty care or general pediatrics. Nurses will interview and be hired to one of these two units depending on position availability at time of application. The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. Conducts urgent physical and psychosocial assessments of the patient and family during after hours and determines appropriate interventions. Provides and maintains a safe environment for the patient. Provides professional nursing care by utilizing all elements of the nursing process. Provides skilled nursing care focusing on pain control and symptom management.
