Maintain awareness while in the surgery suite of the patient, surgeon, anesthesia responses, and overall condition during surgery. Maintain strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols. Maintain timely and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure seamless surgical care, collaborating with surgeons. anesthesia and other healthcare professionals. Contributes to Quality Improvement activities and participates in the departmental Quality Improvement Program. Clear communication with the patient and their families. Be familiar and adhere to the regulations of AORN. Perform other related duties as required. Requirements Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience in the operating room, successful completion of the periop 101 course, or ability to successfully complete periop 101 course required. Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR), preferred. Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements, i.e. blood borne pathogens, etc. Physical requirements: Able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs using provided equipment or additional manpower as needed. Standing and walking for extended periods of time wearing a lead apron. Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. POSITION SUMMARY The Hospice Program Director is responsible for the overall direction of hospice clinical services. Maintains the quality of patient care in accordance with the Agency’s objectives and policies, through planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of the hospice services provided. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by the clinical organization personnel. Assume responsibility for self-development by continually striving to improve his/her Nursing/Management practice through formal education, attendance at workshops and conferences, active participation in professional and related organizational meetings, and/or individual research and reading. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES) Must be a Registered Nurse licensed by the state of Connecticut and shall have one of the following, Must have a master’s degree from a program approved by the National League for Nursing or the American Public Health Association with a minimum of one year (1) of full-time clinical experience in a home health agency or related community health program which included care of the sick at home, or A baccalaureate degree in nursing and a minimum of three (3) years of full-time clinical experience in nursing, at least one (1) of which was in a home health agency or community health program which included care of the sick at home, or A registered nurse who has been continuously employed in the position onf suoervisro of clinical services in a home health agency in the state of Connecticut since January 1, 1979, or A diploma in nursing or an associate's degree in nursing and A minimum of three years of full-time or full-time equivalent clinical experience in nursing within the past five years, at least one year of which was in a home health agency or related community health program which included care of the sick at home, or Evidence of certification by the American Nurses’ Association as a community health nurse or completion of at least sox credits received within two years in community health nursing theory or six credits in health care management from an accredited college or university program or school of nursing. Must have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in home hospice or skilled home care. (hospice preferred) At least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community. Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations and ACHC standards. The ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing. Must have the ability to demonstrate self-confidence and a positive attitude toward self and others, and maintain commitment and enthusiasm to goal achievement. Providing proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence. 8. Reporting any complaint of pain or other symptoms or changes in the patient's condition to the RN Case Manager. Also aware of the caregiver or other individuals living with the patient and interpersonal issues. 9. Assisting in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist. 10. Provide normal range of motion and transfers/positioning as directed. 11. Assistance with self-administered medications as allowed by state regulations, such as “reminders.” 12. Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals. Providing assistance as assigned with light laundry needs, emptying waste baskets and other light homemaker tasks. 13. Performing range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency. 14. Providing respite for patient's/family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate. 15. Keeping patient's living area clean and orderly, as assigned. 16. Adhering to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. 17. Participates in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities. 18. Respectful of patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs. 19. As a mandatory reporter, reports failure to comply with the requirements of the Dept. of Health as required within 14 calendar days, using Dept. of Health forms. 20. Reports suspected abandonment, abuse, financial exploitation, or neglect of a person in violation of the department of social and health services and the proper law enforcement agency. JOB LIMITATIONS The hospice aide will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the Nurse Practice Act. Current Food Handlers Permit 5. High school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) 6. Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given. 7. Understands hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill. 8. Prior experience in hospice, orderly, acute , rehabilitative, or long term care facility. 1 year previous home health/hospice experience preferred 9. Basic computer skills to document in electronic medical records (EMR) 10. At least 18 years of age. 11.
