To be considered for the role, please apply at the following link: Position Details - Academic Personnel & Faculty The Department of Medicine, Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition at the University of Washington invites applications for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), which is a faculty position at the rank of Teaching Associate with an anticipated start date of September 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month service period [July 1-June 30]. The base salary range for this position will be $10,834- $13,334 per month ($130,008 - $160,008 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. The APP will provide consultative specialty diabetes care to patients in coordination with Endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, and ancillary support staff at the University of Washington Medicine Diabetes Institute (UWMDI). The APP is responsible for providing patient care independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patient’s medical, physical and psychosocial status. Provide timely initial and ongoing patient assessment for diabetes management. Participate in the assessment, planning, care implementation and evaluation of the hyperglycemic patient requiring urgent outpatient care. Participate in the assessment, planning, care implementation, and evaluation of established patients in the UWMDI. Attend UWMDI Service meetings with UWMDI faculty and support staff. Collaborate with the UWMDI supervising physician, the UWMDI certified diabetes RN’s, the UWMDI certified diabetes educator RD’s, the UWMDI PharmD’s, and other providers to ensure coordination and continuity of diabetes care across settings and over time. Attend appropriate clinical meetings to serve as a resource for staff and providers. Facilitate collaboration with referring care providers to ensure continuity of care. Provide patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other health professionals and community resources as appropriate. Participate as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices and evaluation of patient care outcomes. Evaluate quality outcomes for the UWMDI through participation in the development of quality indicators. University of Washington Medicine Diabetes Institute (UWMDI) APP Duties The UWMDI APP maintains excellent interpersonal skills to execute the UWMC Best Practice Model. Establish a therapeutic relationship by imparting a commitment to care for the patient and family through the acute illness and beyond. Connect with the patient and family by eliciting the patient/family perspective and validating the value of that perspective using strong empathic listening skills. Communicate with a sense of caring and openness. Communicate effectively with patients and families, appreciating cultural and socioeconomic disparities. The UWMDI APP provides clinical consultation in all the domains of Glycemic Control Consult Service. Patient/family/provider communication about disease and treatment and how it relates to patient values, priorities, and goals of care across the spectrum of care. Articulate recommendations to colleagues with appropriate and specific language in accordance with current standards of practice, develops individualized goals in accordance with shared outcomes by the primary service. The UWMDI APP collaborates with the primary team. Make individualized Glycemic Control Consult Service recommendations Contribute to the plan of care. Prescribes medications in accordance with the primary service. Order diagnostics/treatments as needed after collaboration with the primary team. Promote a collaborative approach to decision making. Participate in discharge planning meetings to identify and propose solutions for barriers to discharge. All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service. Qualifications Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications: Current and valid Washington state ARNP or PA Licensure. Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or PA-C Program or foreign equivalent. Nationally certified APP with DEA or foreign equivalent Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment. Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in the care of patients with hyperglycemia. Training and experience in Diabetes Care and inpatient Glycemic Control management preferred but not required. Job Description Harborview Medical Center Inpatient Acute Care Float APP (ARNP; Nurse Practitioner; or PA-C, Physician Assistant) This opening is for 100% FTE, Days; (and with weekend and holiday coverage, and with the potential for some night shifts). The Inpatient Acute Care Float APP team is composed of licensed physician assistants and nurse practitioners who are skilled and trained to work across multiple services at Harborview (currently including General Surgery, Medicine Polytrauma Service, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, & Burns). Float APPs possess the ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and provide comprehensive care. They play a critical role, filling in when there are staffing shortages, leaves and fluctuating demands. Work is performed 7 days a week with general independence and decision-making responsibility under the general guidance of the attending physicians or fellows, lead APP and APP assistant director. Guidelines include general policy procedures and practice guidelines established by the department and Harborview Medical Center, as well as appropriate professional and technical manuals. This is a clinical faculty position at the rank of Teaching Associate. Clinical faculty hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. The base salary range for this position will be $10,833 - $15,175 per month ($130,000 - $182,095 per year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include Temporary Pay Supplements or an Administrative Supplement. The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To Clinical Duties and Responsibilities: Provide full spectrum independent as well as collaborative electrophysiology care in the outpatient setting for adult arrhythmia patients including antiarrhythmic medication management, device care, pre/post-op evaluation, and urgent arrhythmia/device needs. Provide full spectrum independent as well as collaborative electrophysiology care in the inpatient setting, primarily managing peri-procedural electrophysiology patients as well as antiarrhythmic drug loads requiring hospitalization. Inpatient patient load may include managing stable cardiology overflow patients and/or managing patients with devices undergoing MRI evaluation. Perform CEID interrogations with reprogramming. Perform cardioversion and loop recorder implantation as training and experience allows. Perform other related duties as required Outpatient and inpatient work will be on a rotational basis including: Outpatient clinical expectation is to work up to seven (7) 4-hr clinical blocks, with 5 patients per block within 8-12 months of start date. A 4-hr administrative block is scheduled for inbox management and required weekly cardiology meetings. Outpatient clinical work will comprise approximately 0.67 of clinical FTE. Inpatient clinical expectation is to work 12-hr clinical shifts comprising approximately 0.33 of clinical FTE. Professional Duties Participate in quality improvement projects and process improvement activities. Participate in and support the Division’s education, research and quality initiatives. Provide education and mentorship to fellow team members, staff, residents, fellows, nurses and students. Translate research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and patient outcomes. Attend twice weekly Electrophysiology Conferences, weekly Cardiology Grand Rounds, monthly electrophysiology faculty meetings and quarterly cardiology faculty meetings. Follow UWMC Professional Behavior Policy and Procedures. Candidates will be considered across a range of interests in electrophysiology, heart failure and adult congenital heart disease and should hold an ACLS Certification and be well versed in EPIC.
