Inpatient Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) - General Internal Medicine The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Department of General Internal Medicine (GIM), Section of Consultative Medicine, provides comprehensive inpatient and consultative care for patients across the care continuum while supporting the management of chronic and acute medical conditions through a multidisciplinary approach. The Advanced Practice Provider plays an important role in delivering high-quality care and supporting the inpatient consult service. The Advanced Practice Provider works closely with faculty physicians to manage complex medical needs, coordinate care, and support patients throughout hospitalization and treatment. The Advanced Practice Provider contributes to patient education, clinical collaboration, and continuity of care while helping ensure consistent seven-day coverage across the service. The ideal candidate is an experienced Advanced Practice Provider with at least three years of APP experience and a strong foundation in Internal Medicine. Preferred candidates have Internal Medicine experience and/or Weight Management/Obesity Clinic experience and/or Certified Weight Management or Obesity Medication certification. Order diagnostic testing, medications, and treatments within delegated prescriptive authority. Review laboratory, pathology, radiology, and other diagnostic reports. Care Coordination & Consultation Support General Internal Medicine services in collaboration with faculty physicians. Facilitate communication across specialties and healthcare teams. Respond to provider consultations and serve as a liaison for patients and families. Education, Research & Professional Development Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and ongoing care. The General Internal Medicine unit is a 16-bed one-pod intermediate care medical oncology unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients ranging in age from 18 -95. Patients treated on P4A include those with solid tumor cancers, such as colorectal, gastrointestinal, and lung cancer who are on a spectrum of cancer care from pre-diagnosis to end of life. Patients are provided treatment for side effects and complications of their cancer care, as well as supportive care.
