A Brief Overview The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) provides intermediate level care to patients with congenital and acquired heart disease as well as those with primary rhythm abnormalities. Patients include medical and surgical cardiac patients with an age range typically spanning newborns to young adults. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area.
