This is an entry-level nursing position for Graduate Resident Nurses. Training, evaluation, and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader in the department. During the first year of employment, you will be enrolled in a Nurse Residency Program. Nurse Leadership will determine a balance of Clinical and Educational time. Job Description: 6 Southeast is a 20 bed Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit providing expert care for a variety of diagnoses with a focus on cardiac and respiratory conditions. Clinical Judgment and Decision Making: Ways in which nurses come to understand the problems, issues or concerns of patients/families, to attend to relevant/critical information, and to respond in concerned and involved ways. A. Graduate Resident Nurse is expected to and is accountable for providing safe patient care by demonstrating organizational skills that maintain and coordinate safe delivery of quality care for assigned patients/families. Develops a culturally competent plan of care that identifies patient problems, expected outcomes, and addresses preventative measures. B. Performs systematic patient and family assessment relevant to practice settings. C. Delivers care that is specific to the age of the patient. D. Evaluates effectiveness of care and adapts plan based on patient/family response. II. Professional Relationship: The professional relationship is based upon Lahey Clinic’s guiding principles and positive effective communication. This relationship extends beyond formal assessment to integrate the particular patient’s response and his/her religious/spiritual, ethnic and cultural beliefs into the plan of care. A. Establishes professional relationship with nurses, physicians and other colleagues and patients and families. The relationship includes the patient and family as a partner in care and is based upon Swanson’s Theory of Caring. B. Educates the patient and family about the patient’s illness and treatment including preventative measures appropriate to the patient. C. Supports Lahey Clinics commitment to community-based activities both within the Lahey community and beyond. III. Clinical Leadership: The Graduate Resident Nurse supports the development of others and creates a practice climate of responsiveness and learning based on Benner’s Novice to Expert skills acquisition model. This supports the retention and recruitment of clinically competent nurses. The ability to lead and influence the reasoning of colleagues in the patient’s best interest depends on skillful comportment, authoritative clinical knowledge and wisdom, the conviction to act as an ethical agent despite adverse consequences, and the ability to listen and enhance others’ strengths. A. Demonstrates professional behavior by adhering to unit policies and procedures, practice guidelines specific to the setting and the ANA Code of Ethics. B. Demonstrates skills as a responsive team member. C. Demonstrates role of nurse as teacher. D. Demonstrate ability to fulfill role in Regulatory compliance and readiness. IV. Clinical Scholarship: The Graduate Resident Nurse achieves clinical scholarship through experiences with patients, through collaboration with colleagues and leadership and through formal education. Demonstrates evidenced based practice (EBP) in nursing. Essential Duties including but not limited to: Demonstrates the ability for decision-making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience in caring for patients. Administers medications and treatments. Coordinates and assists in the care of patients and directs assistive personnel in order to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable, and timely patient-centered care. Demonstrates initial awareness of environmental forces on health care of patients and their families. Develops a collegial and collaborative relationship with other professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families. Position Highlights & Primary Responsibilities: Provides effective patient care directly to patients or through telephone management Delivers care based on patient's specific needs. Interviews patient and or significant other(s) on admission. Uses observation skills to assess patient, including physical, psychosocial and behavioral status. Identifies and prioritizes patient problems based on assessments Urogynecology procedures are performed by nursing staff, including bladder instillations and voiding trials. The Special Procedure Unit is available and included in our Department for outpatient procedures, such as uterine polyp removals. Plans for care collaboratively with the patient as well as multidisciplinary healthcare team. Involves patient and significant other(s) based on patient needs Implements interventions. Evaluates or revises the plan based on patient needs or outcomes Initiates nursing interventions that assist the patient to maximize health capabilities. Reassess and revise plan of care according to patient or significant other(s) education needs. Utilizes EMR tools to proactively ensure that all primary and secondary prevention services are accomplished in a timely fashion Administers, monitors and evaluates all therapeutic interventions including but not limited to safe medication administration according to Standard Policies and Procedures and applicable state and federal laws, including but not limited to Immunizations, Department specific medications After completion of a training program, starts intravenous therapy for hydration and administration of medications as required Administers intravenous medications, including limited IV push medications depending on patient population, e.g. Urgent Care versus Primary Care patients, as required Consistently documents all the aspects of patient care and patient education. Required Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing Currently licensed as a RN in the State of Massachusetts 1+ years of RN / LPN experience Phone triage experience Preferred Qualifications: Experience with EMR systems (EPIC) BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days from hire Proven knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, etc. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
