Qualifications and Skills To excel as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) , you will need: A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. A certificate documenting successful completion of a nurse aide training course approved by the Illinois Board of Educators or equivalent qualification as defined by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Active listing or eligibility to be listed on the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation CNA registry. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
