A Brief Overview Assumes responsibility for directing hospital-wide patient care activities and oversees hospital operations on an assigned shift. What You Will Do Ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Care and Practice, Patient Bill of Rights and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Ensures that patient care is delivered consistent with specialty specific standards (e.g. Oncology Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses) Supports Shared Governance model and facilitates staff participation. Creates an environment in which personal and professional growth is an expectation Ensures that patient assessment, evaluation and care is coordinated to meet the changing needs. Ensures staff performance expectations by monitoring patient care activities through direct observation and patient focused rounds. Serves as a clinical resource for staff. Mentors staff and participates in educational planning for identified needs. Presents programs to staff as necessary. Demonstrates cost effectiveness without compromise to quality patient care by allocating resources (personnel, supplies and equipment) based on census, activity, and acuity in collaboration with Unit Directors. Participates in department performance improvement program. Investigates concerns of patients, visitors, and physicians and communicates to appropriate Unit Director.
