Pay Range: $43.90 - $59.69 Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 Position Overview Pre & Post Procedure Department: Preparing outpatient and AM admits patients for various surgical, endoscopy, and interventional radiology procedures. Recovery of patients following various outpatient procedures. Hours of work : 6a-3:30p (4 - 9-hour shifts - varying weekday off, no weekend requirement, no holiday requirement) Delivers quality care to patients through a team effort in working with others through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Assures patient safety by executing appropriate policies & procedures. Provides appropriate support for pain management, pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures. Assist patient/family in identifying individualized comfort measures. Follows up on internal resources to determine the outcome of interventions completed by other departments. Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patients control and participation over his/her own recovery. Provides information and interpretation of the patient's condition and offers coping mechanisms. Provides these to both patient and family. Assesses how much information a patient wants and needs while utilizing a vocabulary and approach that enables the patient to successfully process the care and course of treatment. Formulates and documents a discharge plan that maximizes the patient's ability to continue with meaningful life activities. Integrates assessment and diagnostic information with intuition to foresee potential age-specific healthcare needs. Anticipates patients needs. Ensures handoff communication and includes a report in terms of the situations most likely to develop and the problems awaiting patient. Identifies proactively issues to be resolved related to patient education for medication management. Provide discharge planning which includes instructions on discharge medications. Uses discretionary judgment to appropriately modify patient care regimens. Facilitates appropriate response from other health care team members to provide quality and safe care. Explores multiple aspects of care regimen with case manager and health care providers to promote appropriate resolution. Displays ability to see the entire unit and is self motivated to develop a plan for adjusting staffing patterns as needed. Attends educational sessions when offered in areas that will improve one's ability to assess the needs on one's respective department. These would include, but, not limited to: charge nurse workshops, leadership training, critical decision making, prioritization of workload, etc. Plans and provides unique and individualized comfort measures while utilizing intuitive and innovative approaches which are scientifically sound and are a result of evidenced based practice. Participates in unit based and/or hospital based committees. Participates in performance improvement activities at the unit and/or hospital wide level. Participates actively in the preparation of Joint Commission readiness. Participates in unit level effort to achieve successful Patient Satisfaction scores and has an awareness of the HCAAPS measurements. Performs any other related duties as required or assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Associate's degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Experience: None. Previous nursing experience preferred. Overview The Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU) is a 28-bed critical care unit specializing in caring for traumatically injured patients or those undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Patients are admitted directly from the ED, the Ross Trauma Admitting Area, or the operating room. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures, and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Many patients cared for in the TSICU are poly-trauma patients, with injuries involving more than one body system. Common surgical patients include those undergoing Whipple procedures, esophagectomies, gastrostomies, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners, resident physicians, and attending trauma surgeons. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapists and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the trauma patient's care. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse). Provides or assists in ADL activities; personal hygiene, grooming, mouth, skin care and nails. Assists or reminds the patient to take medication, in compliance with regulations of appropriate regulatory and accrediting bodies. Assists with light housekeeping of individual's personal unit or room, including changing of bed linen, if needed and patient laundry. Feeds and assists with meals. Obtains temperature, pulse and respiration as supervised by the Hospice Nurse. Reports any changes in resident's/patient's condition to the Hospice Nurse and, if in a facility, to the facility nurse and documents the information , including the date and time of the report and the person receiving the information. Ideal candidates will have: HHA License in the state of NJ Understands the hospice philosophy Minimum of one year experience working in hospice Dependable transportation
