Job Details APP- NP or PA – Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) FT – varied shifts (am and pm combined shifts) Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) team in a renowned hospital in New York. This position offers an opportunity to work with critically ill patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgeries and to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, and respiratory therapists. Key Responsibilities: • Patient Assessment & Management: o Perform thorough assessments of critically ill cardiothoracic patients, including history, physical exams, and ongoing evaluations. o Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab results. o Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for patients in collaboration with the attending physicians and healthcare team. o Provide continuous monitoring and management of complex cases, including post-operative recovery, ventilation support, and hemodynamic management. • Procedural Support: o When complex privileging is obtained the ability to peform central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation/extubation, chest tube placement . o Provide post-procedure care and patient education, ensuring proper recovery and addressing potential complications. • Collaboration & Communication: o Work closely with attending cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care. o Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and support regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge processes. o Attend daily rounds to discuss patient progress, concerns, and updates. • Clinical Leadership & Education: o Serve as a mentor and resource for nursing staff, residents, and fellows, providing guidance and education on clinical practices within the CTICU. o Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical research efforts within the unit. o Stay current with advancements in critical care medicine, particularly cardiothoracic care, and engage in continuing education. Qualifications: • Education & Experience: o Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN), Physician Assistant (PA), or equivalent advanced practice provider (APP) qualification. o Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Acute Care. Duties Description Nurses are vital members of a multi-disciplinary team focused on providing compassionate care through patient-centered and recovery-focused mental health services to individuals with serious mental illness including: Planning and supervising nursing care Coordinating and providing nursing care Conducting nursing assessments Preparing, implementing, and modifying nursing care plans Providing health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals and families Implementing infection control protocols and procedures Observing and recording individuals symptoms and care; reporting responses to medications or changes in health Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Registered Nurse 2 Psychiatric if they have a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder.
