Communicates and collaborates with patients, physicians, family members and other health care disciplines in order to achieve excellence in patient care during hospitalization. • a. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills including interaction with staff through understanding, talking, hearing, seeing and listening. • b. Involves patient in all aspects of the plan of care, serving as advocate when necessary. • c. Consistently and continuously communicates, consults and shares pertinent information regarding changes in patient status and patient care. • d. Identifies patient using name and birth date upon admission to the CVOR. • c. Participates in “Time-out” prior to incision and documents appropriately. • d. Maintains equipment in good working order, reports equipment failure, and initiates corrective action. • e. Labels all medications as appropriate on and off the sterile field. • f. Safely handles various types of drugs and body fluids using knowledge of appropriate standard precautions. • 4. Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and goals. • a. Identifies professional goals, which reflect own strengths and weaknesses and seeks assistance for improvement of performance. • b. Attends and participates in meetings according to department standards. • c. Supports and participates in department, hospital, and evidence-based care quality initiatives, including core measures. • d. JOB TITLE : PACU RN GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Assists in provision of nursing care to patients in a fast paced Total Joint Replacement Ambulatory Surgical Center. Assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and centers policies. The center operates Monday through Friday and shifts start at 0530 or 0730, the closing shift stays until the last patient is discharged (on average 4pm, however can be longer depending on patient acuity). We have two operating rooms and serve 7-8 patients per day, usually with only one surgeon. Seven preop/pacu bays are assigned to a patient for use in both phases of care, and the nursing staff adjust their assignments accordingly. Majority of patients receive spinal anesthesia in preop and during recovery require post op ambulation of 100 feet. Discharge teaching requires attention to detail as these are all outpatients. REQUIREMENTS : Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing; current Pennsylvania RN License. CPR required. ACLS required. Minimum one year in PACU. Patients with injuries that are stable but require ongoing close monitoring are admitted to this unit directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients are also admitted to the unit as they are downgraded from the Trauma/Surgical ICU or the Trauma Step-Down Unit. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse). Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering compassionate, high-quality care to residents within all levels of care. Job Description The PACU RN is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the pre-surgical and post-anesthesia care units for all patient populations. This primary position at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Malvern, will include collaboration with Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware and the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford to optimize available resources in achieving optimal patient outcomes. This position may require periodic rotation to these facilities. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy. This position requires active registered nurse (RN) licensure in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, and current Pennsylvania Clearances to include FBI Fingerprint Report, PA Criminal Background Record, & PA Child Abuse Clearance. This position requires working shifts aligned with the needs of the department and the assigned FTE of the RN. Schedule: full-time, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - Hours 7:00am - 7:30pm No Weekends, No Holidays, No Call Responsibilities Provides age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice. Assesses patient’s pre-surgical status and compliance with pre-surgical criteria per organizational guidelines. Assesses patient’s post-operative status at intervals according to organizational policies and procedures. Interprets information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors. Demonstrates knowledge of underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes. Demonstrates knowledge of the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions. Applies the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer accurately as defined by organizational policy. Develops and implements an individualized perianesthesia plan of care. Manages patient recovery from general, monitored, regional, and local anesthesia. Protects patients from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects Communicates patient status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care. Provides acute pain and comfort management as needed. Administers medications correctly by implementing the rights of safe medication practices. Performs interventions to maintain the integrity of surgical wounds and tissue perfusion, ensures normothermia, protects patients from infection, addresses co-morbid conditions, and monitors hydration. Assesses knowledge level of patient or designated support person in providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain and comfort management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure. In conjunction with the leadership of the Heart and Vascular Institute, directs the care provided to patients in the Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs. Manages all Cath/EP Lab Staff, Nurses, and Technologists at TUH Main Inc. Develops evidenced based policies, procedures, and work processes to ensure provision of quality patient care. Responsible for staffing, budget, control of expenses, continuing development and education of staff, performance improvement, and human resource management. Maintains inventory controls, equipment repairs and quality control equipment file, logging downtime, PM's and related problems. Supervises, evaluates, guides and counsels staff in their work performance. Maintains and prioritizes the employee work schedule, attendance and payroll records. Ensures all Interventional Radiology departments are compliant with Joint Commission, State and regulatory procedures and all regulatory requirements are met.
