Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) (Phase I Recovery):The Children’s Mercy Post-Anesthesia Care Unit is for patients who have had surgical procedures, usually under general anesthesia. The PACU Nursing Staff monitors vital signs, respiratory status, level of consciousness, pain, nausea/vomiting, and surgical site post-operatively. We work closely with Anesthesia and the Surgeon for pain and comfort management. We aim to resolve all patient care needs during every phase of post-anesthesia care. Once a patient has met standard criterion, they transfer to Phase II and are dismissed the same day or transfer to an inpatient unit for further observation. Phase II Dismissal (Post-Op): The Children’s Mercy Phase II Dismissal area is for patients who have met established criteria and are able to be dismissed home following their surgical procedure. Parents are provided written and verbal instructions on the care of their child and post-operative teaching is completed. The team works to ensure the proper pre-operative testing, medication instruction and other pre-surgical preparations have taken place. The Surgical Clearinghouse is a call center that provides a central location for peri-operative coordination of care. A team of clinical nurses contacts the patients and families 7-10 days prior to their scheduled surgery date to resolve any issues that could potentially be barriers on the day of surgery. Nurses also educate families on the pre-operative processes, expectations for the day of surgery, and pre-operative care. Collaboration with our social work department, surgery clinics, and surgeons allow for all issues to be resolved prior to arrival on the day of surgery. Registered nurses provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families who require care. This is a great opportunity for an experienced or entry level Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), an experienced or entry level Medical Assistant or even someone interested in becoming a medical assistant and providing patient care. Those candidates that are not certified or that do not have applicable experience will receive 10 weeks of on the job training to learn the position. This position is responsible for assisting providers in the evaluation, management, and delivery of professional medical care in a busy multi-specialty physician practice. The Work: Provide an excellent patient experience by managing the flow of patients, providing excellent customer service, establishing rapport with patients and maintaining a professional demeanor. Conduct Pre-visit planning, room patients and obtain vitals Phlebotomy Administer injections and coordinate vaccines Assist providers with procedures Utilize the EMR system and scan/download documents Conduct telephone screening (with protocols) Cover front office responsibilities as needed In this position you will have the opportunity to make a difference in our patients’ clinic experience so we are looking for someone that has a positive attitude, strong customer service skills and is eager to be a team player.
