The Registered Nurse (RN) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute provides evidence-based oncology nursing care across inpatient care units. Additionally, the RN is involved in symptom management, patient and family education, and coordinating care within the interdisciplinary team. Inpatient Oncology Float Pool Shift: Nights Schedule: 36 hours per week, with rotating weekends Primary Duties And Responsibilities This position is eligible for full time benefits Deliver direct oncology nursing care, including comprehensive assessment, individualized care planning, symptom management, and evaluation of patient outcomes for adult oncology patients and families. Administer antineoplastic agents and supportive therapies per protocols and ONS standards; verify orders, complete independent double checks, and monitor for and manage infusion reactions and adverse events. Manage central venous access devices (e.g., ports, PICCs); perform access, maintenance, blood draws, and blood product transfusions per policy; ensure safe use of infusion equipment and PPE. Provide patient and family education on diagnosis, treatment plans, self-care, side-effect management, and discharge instructions; coordinate multidisciplinary resources and community referrals. Document care in Epic in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards; maintain accurate medication administration records, flowsheets, and patient education documentation. Participate in quality and safety activities (e.g., safety huddles, infection prevention, hazardous drug handling, Joint Commission readiness) and support clinical research protocols as applicable (e.g., protocol adherence, specimen handling, adverse event reporting). Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, and research staff; contribute to effective team communication, handoffs, and patient throughput. May serve as charge nurse, preceptor, or mentor; provides functional direction to licensed and unlicensed support personnel in accordance with scope of practice and institutional policies. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Proficiency in chemotherapy/immunotherapy administration per ONS guidelines; working knowledge of oncology pharmacology and side-effect profiles. Competence in central line care and infusion therapy; ability to administer and monitor blood products per policy. Ability to recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies (e.g., infusion reactions, febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome) and escalate care appropriately. Strong patient education skills with ability to tailor communication to diverse populations and varying health literacy levels; commitment to culturally competent, trauma-informed care. Proficiency with EMR systems (Epic preferred); accurate and timely clinical documentation and electronic medication administration. Knowledge of infection prevention, hazardous drug handling (USP ), PPE requirements, and universal precautions. Effective triage, prioritization, and time management skills for varying acuity in a fast-paced ambulatory environment. Collaborative team skills; ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and support clinical research activities. Critical thinking, clinical judgment, problem-solving, and ability to function effectively under stress. Professionalism, accountability, and adherence to ANA Code of Ethics and institutional policies. Minimum Job Qualifications Associate degree, Nursing. A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is strongly preferred, and candidates with an associate degree must complete a BSN within 4 years. 1 year of recent experience as a Registered Nurse preferred. Acute care nursing experience preferred; oncology/hematology experience in an Inpatient or ambulatory infusion clinic setting preferred. Experience with electronic medical records (e.g., Epic) preferred. License/Certification/Registration Required Current unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required. ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certificate required or obtained within 6 months of hire (role-dependent). Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred depending on work area. Supervisory Responsibilities No Patient Contact Direct and continuous contact with adult oncology patients and families in an inpatient environment. Special Working Conditions Exposure to hazardous drugs and biohazards; adherence to PPE and safe handling policies required. May require rotating shifts or extended hours based on operational and patient care needs. Essential Functions Regulatory and Corporate Compliance: Ensure each community within the defined region is compliant with Maplewood policies, procedures, practices and programmatic standards, as well as with Massachusetts Executive Office of Aging & Independence (AGE) regulations related to resident care and clinical operations, and applicable federal/CMS requirements for the skilled nursing setting. Process Improvement and Best Practices: Participate in process improvement efforts and initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership and community leaders. Ensure communities are consistently using Maplewood quality standards and best practices. Quality Assurance: Facilitate regularly scheduled internal quality audits (CQE) to ensure quality measures are being met. Clinical Systems: Ensure all clinical systems (EHR, eMAR, life safety systems, communication systems, etc.) are optimized and that staff are trained to use them properly. Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts; advanced training and certification(s) preferred. 5+ years of nursing experience, including 3+ years in assisted living leadership. Previous experience as a Resident Services Director (RSD) or equivalent community-level clinical leadership role. Proven and progressive experience within assisted living communities. Long-term care or skilled nursing facility (SNF) experience a plus, as the portfolio includes one skilled nursing community. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly among the three campuses. The Nurs Practitioner(NP)/ Physician Assistant (PA) is part of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Cancer Care Access Program (CCAP), which aims to place Dana-Farber at the forefront of efforts to reduce differences in cancer outcomes across local communities. The NP/PA will provide care to patients in CCAP’s onsite Cancer Diagnostic Clinics located within Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) throughout the Greater Boston area. The NP/PA will evaluate adult patients referred by primary care providers at participating FQHCs for new, existing, or prior cancer diagnoses; benign hematologic conditions; breast concerns; and other concerning cancer-related symptoms. Overview Salary: $75,000-$80,000 Schedule: Monday-Friday (hours discussed at interview) The CBHC (Community Behavioral Health Center) Registered Nurse will perform the following core functions: complete triage evaluations, administer injectable medication, engage in medication reconciliation, take vital signs, perform phlebotomy, coordinate medical care, contribute to comprehensive assessments, complete individual crisis prevention planning, provide psychoeducation, and assist with transition of care planning and care coordination. Participate in training on the CBHC’s identified Evidence-based practices (EBTs) and provide treatment consistent with these practices. Support individuals in participating in other CBHC services, E.g., Peer Support, Recovery Coaching, Care Management, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services, Social Support Opportunities, and Community Recovery Supports. Coordinate service delivery with team members, including ensuring access and securing authorization for services. Collaborate with existing providers and other collaterals and deliver services in accordance with client’s plan of care. Participate in team meetings to ensure effective communication among all disciplines involved in participant’s care. Follow the CBHC participant across the continuum of care to ensure care coordination. Partner with participant, their care team providers, and supports to ensure that care plan and safety plan are implemented as developed and make needed adjustments. Monitor participant’s progress in treatment and assist the clinical team with evaluating the need for continued services. Complete all required documentation in a timely manner meeting Agency and division established deadlines Attend assigned trainings; maintain necessary certifications and licenses (CPR/First Aid, Safety Care, MAP). Attend and participate in supervision, teaming and clinical rounds with medical team. Ensure that clients are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates Human Rights Policy.
