Key Responsibilities Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height. Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, and information such as test results in medical records. Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens; log and document specimens; and prepare them for testing. Assist physicians in examining and treating patients by handing them instruments and materials. Give injections and remove sutures as directed. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, including cleaning and restocking. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Provide phone consultation with clients regarding test results and health concerns. Process blood and other specimens, ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and packaged for lab pickup. Perform phlebotomy and other diagnostic tests as needed. Administer oral, intramuscular, SubQ, and topical medications as ordered. Ensure proper documentation of patient care. Maintain exam room supplies, check stock for expired dates, and change sharps containers and biohazard waste as needed. Assist with programs such as the Hazard Communication and Accident Prevention plans associated with OSHA compliance. Participate in the Performance Improvement Program. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Promote effective working relationships and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Attend all required safety training programs and remain knowledgeable about responsibilities related to general safety, department or service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Operate assigned equipment and perform all procedures safely as instructed. Maintain the work area and equipment according to Legacy and government policies and requirements. Demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions. Check the patient environment and equipment to ensure safety. Report safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel. Follow Legacy’s exposure control plans for blood-borne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment and Universal Precautions. Ensure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
