The CCU/IU nurse monitors the overall hemodynamic status of the critically ill patient while performing head to toe assessments, assessing all body systems, rhythms and invasive lines, tubes and drains. Many of these patients are post-surgical and require intense monitoring. CCU/IU Nurses are required to stay current with both BLS and ACLS certifications. The Registered Nurse in CCU functions in units we call pods. This design allows the OHH nurse to maintain a 1:1 or 1:2 nurse patient ratio in the Critical Care Department and a 1:3 nurse patient ratio in the Interventional Unit. This allows CCU/IU nurses adequate time to monitor and care for critically ill patients thus ensuring the highest quality, safe and patient-focused care.
