Nurse Practitioner - Complex Care Services Department Summary Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to function in the inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS) at Boston Children’s Hospital. CCS is a long-standing and nationally regarded inpatient service in Pediatric Hospital Medicine within the Division of General Pediatrics that serves hospitalized children with medical complexity, who have complex chronic conditions and functional limitations. Common reasons for admission to CCS include infections (aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), chronic condition exacerbations (epilepsy, digestive dysmotility), and post-operative recovery following surgery (baclofen pump placement, gastrostomy, spinal fusion, etc.). This role will provide patient evaluation, assessment, and facilitate care for the patients on the CCS service and will implement interventions tailored to improve systems for patient care and enhance patient safety for this population. The CCS APRN will work collaboratively with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the entire nursing team to promote optimal clinical care. This APRN will act as a clinical resource, facilitating staff educational opportunities. The setting is fast-paced and collaborative with many opportunities for learning. Requirements include completion of a master’s degree program in Nursing. Clinical experience with children with medical complexity is preferred. Position Summary/ Department Summary: The Colorectal and Pelvic Malformation Center at Boston Children’s specializes in caring for infants, children and adolescents with routine to complex colorectal and pelvic conditions. Our team of pediatric experts from surgery, gastroenterology, urology, and gynecology work together to provide comprehensive and personalized treatment plans for patients and families. The Nurse Practitioner will have clinical, administrative and programmatic responsibilities. The management of some of these patients may involve multidisciplinary care, cross training will be provided in colorectal/pediatric surgery, urology, gynecology and gastroenterology. Key Responsibilities: Working with the multidisciplinary team to integrate inpatient and outpatient care, implement interventions and support administrative and nursing staff as a clinical resource. Assessing and triaging new patients, assisting with obtaining histories and records, ordering appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to streamline and coordinate the intake process. Position Summary/ Department Summary: Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Medicine (per diem) Key Responsibilities: Providing individualized care to the emergency department’s long-stay patient population, which is mostly comprised of patients boarding for definitive psychiatric care. Daily responsibilities will include: Providing individualized care for up to 12 patients per day Performing a physical examination and addressing urgent medical needs Attending morning rounds with the ED Psychiatry team and the charge nurse to review the plan for each patient Supporting the nursing staff and the Behavioral Response Team in treating ED patients with acute agitation and unsafe behaviors using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological de-escalation techniques Depending on shift type and departmental needs, other responsibilities may include: Providing emergency care to infants, children and young adults in a fast-paced, Level 1 Trauma Center with trauma-related, surgical and medical illnesses of various acuities and complexity.
