If admitted the patient is transferred to the appropriate floor for continued recovery and discharge. The PACU sees infants to geriatrics. Here the patients are closely monitor while they are waking up from the anesthesia they received during the procedure. Depending on the procedure and the orders received from the physicians the patient will be discharged home or admitted to the hospital. First Pre-Admission Testing, located in 3 Cooper calls to review a patient’s health information prior to a surgical procedure. Once approval for the recommended surgical procedure is finalized and patient information is reviewed the patient is provided with information on when and where to report. Once arrived and registered the patient is escorted to the appropriate location to be prepped for surgical procedure. These RN’s prep the patient for the procedure. They review medical history, medical procedures and place an IV. Patients are met by Anesthesia and their Surgeon. Once everything is reviewed and verified the patient then goes to the OR. The goal of this unit is to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care. The Synergy model is used in making appropriate patient assignments based on patient and family needs and nursing skill set. Special equipment used on this unit includes infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, BiPap respirators, Oxygen delivery methods, PCA & epidural pumps, wound vacutainers, ventilators and specialty beds. First Pre-Admission Testing, located in 3 Cooper calls to review a patient’s health information prior to a surgical procedure. Once approval for the recommended surgical procedure is finalized and patient information is reviewed the patient is provided with information on when and where to report. Once arrived and registered the patient is escorted to the appropriate location to be prepped for surgical procedure. These RN’s prep the patient for the procedure. They review medical history, medical procedures and place an IV. Patients are met by Anesthesia and their Surgeon. Once everything is reviewed and verified the patient then goes to the OR. INCU has critically care-trained RNs who support the patient's needs and care for ventilated patients. South 10 also has 2 negative pressure isolation rooms with an anti-room that is used when needed for specific isolation needs. We do multidisciplinary rounds Monday – Friday. This involves the patient in their care and allows the team members to collaborate with the patient to give them the best possible care and appropriate discharge to home or other facilities. Essential Job Functions A registered nurse responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, and providing care to assigned patients Utilizes critical thinking to formulate nursing plan based on patient’s complex needs and problems. Formulates, implements and evaluates nursing plan based on patient complex needs and problems. Assists patient and family in discharge planning so that problems and care needs are anticipated and met. Serves as an advocate for patient and family in working with other members of the health care team. Provides safe and appropriate nursing care through adherence to Nursing Department standards. Requirements Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
