Gildner RICA, Rockville, MD Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to provide psychiatric nursing care to adolescents with emotional disabilities and court involved youth on a residential unit, while providing supervision of staff and patient care on the unit. This position may also require medication administration and charge responsibilities for the facility. Minimum Qualifications Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses. Experience: Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include one year in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity and two years in a psychiatric setting. Notes Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university for one year of the required psychiatric experience. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS D evelops, leads , and manages the clinical practice, quality , and safety of patient care of the advanced practice providers essential to the care delivery model. Coordinates care and meeting patient care needs in conjunction with a variety of providers including licensed independent providers acting in consultation with population managers, care managers, and others. Participates in the hiring, supervision, and performance evaluation for team members . Identifies opportunities for and initiates interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve team and patient goals. Utilizes available resources and methodologies to advance practice within the department and beyond, with the aim of improving the care of all patients, particularly those most at risk for adverse outcomes. S eeks opportunities to disseminate clinical knowledge and advance practice development through publication in scholarly journals and participation in professional meetings. Leads and/or participates in departmental, hospital , and/or system-level committees and task forces as a representative of the department, practice and the Department of Nursing as requested . Collaborates with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to refine team goals and objectives and further ensures ongoing continuous improvements to the care delivery model. Analyzes, interprets and presents team-based care results to various audiences as appropriate including senior organizational leaders, departmental and practice leaders, nursing leadership, colleagues, and staff. Collaborates with the other members of the team, appreciating and valuing their contributions, and encouraging all to work at the top of their license/role, education and training for effective care and service to patients in the context of efficient use of resources. Establishes effective interpersonal relationships with nurses, other advanced practice providers, staff, clinical departments, and interdisciplinary colleagues. Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients. Performs physical examinations and provides preventive health measures appropriate to patient needs. Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests to assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs. Arranges for appropriate plan of care and follow-up based on outcome of diagnostic, lab, and physical assessment findings . Sets priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflects evidence-based practice and cost-effective management of time, available human resources, supplies and equipment. Incorporates the concepts of health maintenance, prevention, and promotion into daily practice through patient education and counseling. Assists patients and families in self-care management through the provision of information, tools and resources. Engages in regular performance improvement activities. Uses performance and patient outcome data for continuous quality improvement. Contributes to developing structure, processes and systems to improve the care and disease management of patients. E stablishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master’s degree in relevant field . Certification and Licensing: National A dvanced P ractice R egistered N urse Certification (APRN) OR national board certification as a P hysician A ssistant . Current P hysician A ssistant or APRN license in the State of Florida. Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience . Prior leadership experience preferred. AONCP preferred or within six of employment Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to analyze, consolidate , and interpret accounting data. Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely. Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget. Department Specific Functions I. Clinical Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of Hematology clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies. Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems and follow-up. Writes/recommends prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. Requests/recommends written consultation from physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate and quality patient care. Assess and follow consult patients independent of physician when needed. Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests and intervenes/recommends accordingly. Advises collaborating physician of appropriate information regarding patient care and reports to the physician the actions provided/recommended to the patients. Evaluates the quality of care provided and recommends changes for improvement. Facilitates the appropriate actions and/or implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the clients. Assists in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care. Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for patients. Performs patient triage and determines the urgency of physician’s evaluation. Provides symptom management for side effects related to oncologic treatment. Rotates with colleagues working weekends and holidays. Interacts with admitting physician, hospitalist and other multidisciplinary teams. Prioritizes consults to present to attending physician and rounds with attending daily on patients as appropriate . Writes consult/Inpatient note, discharge note and dictates as appropriate .
