Summary Provides care in the outpatient services area directed toward meeting both the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of patients undergoing invasive procedures in the outpatient surgery department. Communicates with physicians and/or anesthesia providers continuously and as needed about patient condition. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Coordinates and supervises patient care. Gives care to the patient, reflecting flexibility in rules and regulations, as indicated by individual patient needs. Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment. Performance reflects knowledge in all areas of care specific to outpatient surgery (i.e., GI, autologous, conscious sedation). Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Electronic documentation meets current standards and policies. Organizes and manages nursing activities reflecting due consideration for patients’ needs and the needs of the facility and staff. Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; a self starter; compatible and supportive; a team player. Knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration, based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition. Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Ability to perform a head-to-toe preoperative assessment on all patients and reassesses, as needed postoperatively. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, as indicated, and evaluates for effectiveness. Formulates a teaching plan, based on identified patient learning needs, and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate, from preop to discharge. Provides patient with explanation and verbal reassurance consistently. Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner. Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and can identify dysrhythmias. Communicates appropriately and clearly to Outpatient Services Nurse Manager, co‑workers and physicians. Consults other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians in the OPS unit. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Practices good guest relations. Maintains a good working relationship and effective communication both within the department and with other departments for the benefit of the patient Meets current documentation standards and policies and completes within the shift. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family. Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures. Maintains an environment that provides the patient and family with feelings of safety and security. Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program preferred. Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Nebraska. Two (2) years nursing experience preferred. One (1) year of experience in an outpatient surgical setting preferred. Current ACLS and BLS certification. PALS certified within 6 months of hire.

Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials for assigned area of responsibility, removes outdated materials and ensures proper labeling. Uses software (Cerner, GroupWise, etc.) following established protocols for documentation, responding to requests, and initiating appropriate tests and orders. Greets patients and escorts them to exam room. Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization. Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Detailed responsibilities: * PATIENT CARE - Assess, diagnose and develop treatment plans; implement treatment, follow-up and evaluate patient within the scope of practice protocols as outlined by state statute * PRESCRIP AUTHORITY - Prescribes and distributes all drugs, including controlled substances * PATIENT CARE - Perform patient history and physical exams as needed for procedures or admissions; document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings * PATIENT CARE - Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures * PATIENT CARE - Evaluate and revise intervention care/treatment plan with patient and family as necessary to achieve improved health * DOCUMENTATION - Provide accurate documentation of patient care, document orders, directives, procedures and patient responses in the medical record and communicate them to other members of the health care team; maintain accurate, legible and confidential records * PATIENT CARE - Provide education for patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues and use of the prescribed medical treatment * PATIENT CARE - Work as a team member with medical/nursing/counseling staff to provide comprehensive care and promote continuity of care * EDUCATION - Guide, teach, support and serve as a clinical resource nursing and medical staff * TRAINING - Act as a role model for advanced practice professions, precept nurses, other advanced practice nurses and physician assistant students * RESEARCH - Support research by conducting or participating in research studies; incorporate findings in clinical practice * DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops * PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols * PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes * PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk * PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner * PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" Qualifications Education: Essential: * Program Graduate Education specialization: Essential: * Advanced Nurse or Clinical Nurse Spec Experience: Essential: 1 year psychiatric experience Nonessential: Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo Bilingual English/Spanish Specialization in applicable area Credentials: Essential: * CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days * NM Advanced Practice Nurse License (CNP, CNS, CRNA) * ACLS or PALS (as applicable) within 30 days of hire Physical Conditions: Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Description The RN Clinic Supervisor is a Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing direct patient care in the clinic(s) as well as facilitating patient care flow. Works in close collaboration with Director and Practice Manager to ensure competency of clinical and non-clinical caregivers. Mentors and develops clinical caregivers. Ensures all assigned duties are performed in a manner that promotes team concept to reflect the Providence Health & Services mission and philosophy.
