RN Practice Management Job Description RN-Practice Management is responsible for providing assistance to providers in the direct and indirect care of Practice Management patients. Performs patient or office related duties including but not limited to clinical measurements and data collection. Documents data and provider directed information clearly and accurately in patient records. Functions clinically as support staff to provider(s). Department: Pulmonary Medicine Clinic Hours: Full time, 40 hours a week Shift: 1st shift Required: ADN, RN Certification, BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire Pay: Based on experience, starting at $29.08 Location: Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center Responsibilities Accepts reassignment, at the direction and discretion of management, as applicable to staffing levels and patient volumes , Administers medication as directed by the provider, may provide intravenous therapy., Assessment- Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or the situation. Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data. , Assists providers with patient exams/ treatments/procedures, Cleans/stocks exam rooms/work spaces on an on-going basis to assure that there is an adequate supply. Performs all tasks related to stocking and cleaning in adherence to regulatory and system infection control policies/protocols. This includes responsibility for discarding outdated items and labeling multi-dose vials with date and initial opened and then discarding them per guidelines. , Cleans and sterilizes equipment and instruments based on needs of the practice. Performs tasks and documents them in alignment with infection control regulations and system policies/protocols., Coordination of Care- Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients., Diagnosis - Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues., Documents appropriate data/information. Keeps providers aware of patient requests, needs and observations made that could be of value to the provider's assessment, care and follow-up. , Documents responses to patient history/screening questions for use by providers during assessments and examinations., Evaluation- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines., Follows Universal Precautions at all times during contact with patients, equipment, instruments, and/or specimens., Implementation - Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards., Knowledge - In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities. , Obtains provider initials or signature on phone message communications to verify accuracy of information communicated. , Outcomes Identification - Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation., Performs and documents laboratory duties which may include phlebotomy, specimen collection and performance of routine basic waived testing. Handles and coordinates reference lab testing specimens/reports and corresponding reports/documentation., Performs general clerical duties, as required, such as receiving and mailing patient test results, preparing charge tickets, transcribing data to physical or referral forms, filing and monitoring or ordering supplies, , Planning - Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes., Relationships - Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions., Relays information between provider(s) and client(s), which may include but is not limited to communications with patients, families, pharmacies, nursing homes, consultancy office staff, insurers, and facilities. Job Summary: The role of the Medical Assistant I (MAI) is to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, performs delegated clinical and administrative duties within the supervising provider’s scope of practice consistent with the MA’s education training and demonstrated competency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Patient Flow Duties: • Review daily schedule and verify availability of supplies and working equipment for the day. • Prepare patient chart prior to appointment time. • Direct patient flow and room turnover in assigned areas. • Communicate with the patients and families and keep them informed of schedule delays. • Maintain cleanliness, inventory and preparedness of assigned exam rooms. • Provide assistance to patients that need help with ambulation or those dependent on a wheelchair or walker. • Communicate changes to patient’s schedule with the provider and team members. • Coordinate interpreter services as needed. • Communicate with families and patients to insure they understand flow and expectations for the visit. • Provide interpretation as requested. • Scheduling appointment as ordered by provider. Direct Patient Care: • Perform vital sign, diagnostic tests and laboratory tests including waived lab test, venipuncture and specimen processing. • Accurately document medical information in patients’ records (flow sheet, progress notes, immunization records, growth charts, refill logs, etc.) lab logs and quality control logs. • Determine immunization status and administer immunization as needed. • Administer medication as ordered by providers. • Label prepackaged medication as directed by providers. • Determine type of appointment needed and prepare patient appropriately. • Assist providers with procedures. • Dispense information to patients as instructed by providers. • Call/fax refill request to the pharmacy as ordered by providers. In-Direct Patient Care: • Check sharps containers daily, replacing when full. • Stock information pamphlets and forms in the clinic daily. • Stock exam rooms, nurse’s station, vaccine administration station and lab daily. • Organize and maintain clean and soiled utility rooms and storage areas. • Disinfect and sterilize equipment. • Maintain proper quality monitoring/control program for sterilization system. • Assist the front desk as needed to expedite check in of patients. • Clean and disinfect exam tables, counters, and equipment such as scales, toys and blood pressure cuff per VGMHC Infection Control Guidelines. • Assemble equipment and prepare trays for minor procedures. • Schedule appointments as ordered by provider. • Track patients’ records as directed by provider. The MA I will use this information to prepare both patients and medical records for visits with the provider and to keep the flow of work going smoothly in the clinic. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, the designated records sets to which this employee will have access include: the full medical record, and the scheduling and demographics functions of the practice management system in the view only mode. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: • Bilingual/bicultural proficiency in Spanish and English preferred. • Knowledge of medical terminology. • Ability to multi-task and set priorities in an ever-changing environment while maintaining a calm, professional environment. • Knowledge and skills through experience and/or training to be able to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served by the clinic. • Recognize own limitations and seek guideline/assistance appropriately. • Rotate to other clinics as needed within the guidelines of the union contract.
