About UPMC Magee Women’s Birthing Center (T9): T9 is a 22-bed multidisciplinary unit that contains its own triage and Operating Rooms. Patients labor, birth, recover and have their postpartum stay in the same unit permitting continuity of patient care throughout their hospital stay promoting skin to skin, support of breastfeeding, delayed bathing, and infant rooming-in. Within the unit is a 4-bed triage area for maternal monitoring of baby and evaluation of emergent obstetrical situations and concerns. Nurses are trained in labor and delivery, how to circulate in the OR for cesarean sections, care of the infant and mother postpartum, triaging patients, and neonatal resuscitation after delivery. Neonates may need to transition in our 8-bed special care nursery, currently caring for neonates 35 weeks and greater. Responsibilities: Patient Care Provide Direct Care: Use nursing protocols and standards to perform and document procedures safely and accurately. Administer medications and IV therapy following policy. Assess and Reassess: Evaluate and document patient and family needs. Reassess patients every eight hours or as needed. Plan Care: Involve patients and families in creating care plans. Prioritize needs, conduct care conferences, and maintain up-to-date care plans. Coordinate with community agencies and other professionals. Coordination and Communication Engage in Team Discussions: Work with medical staff and other professionals to discuss and develop patient care plans. Utilize Systems: Use Bed Management System, Alpha, CPOE, and other relevant computer systems efficiently. Education and Leadership Teach and Educate: Initiate health teaching for patients and families based on their needs. Contribute to the education of staff and students. A Medical Assistant in this role will support outpatient urology care, a high-volume area, performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure optimal patient flow and procedure readiness. A caregiver in this position works Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm with 1 8-hr shift from 11:30am to 8:00pm. Saturday rotations will be about every 4 weeks from 8:00am to 12:00pm.
