Responsibilities Location: Mayo building 16th floor The Pediatric Endocrinology RN provides essential nursing support to a highly complex and medically vulnerable patient population. In this specialized Ambulatory practice, RNs deliver patient and family education, communicate test results, manage symptoms, coordinate long‑term care needs, and provide continuity of care for patients with chronic Endocrine conditions. The role spans both ambulatory and inpatient settings, including inpatient new-onset Diabetes education, and supports patients with Type I and Type II Diabetes, bone and metabolic disorders, weight management concerns, and pituitary and adrenal insufficiency. Pediatric Endocrine patients require intensive, longitudinal nursing involvement due to the complexity of their diagnoses and the high risk for hospitalization, complications, and readmissions. The RN is responsible for comprehensive nursing assessments, proactive care planning, coordination with local and community providers, close monitoring of laboratory results, and delivery of detailed disease‑specific education. This work is critical to optimizing disease management, preventing serious complications, and supporting positive patient and family outcomes. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery).
