Ensures attention to patient’s physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Demonstrates competency in assessment skills (Includes initial and ongoing assessments). Performs pain assessments and intervenes to optimally meet patient’s needs for comfort. Plans clinical care based on patient’s needs and uses available resources. Performs clinical care in accordance with policy and procedure. Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions and takes appropriate actions to move patient toward reaching goals of care. Identifies situations that warrant patient rescue and takes appropriate action, e.g. Patient emergencies, changes in OR schedule and assignment changes. Adheres to the 5 rights of medication administration and uses the Medication Administration Check (MAK) system per policy and procedure. Follows Universal Protocol for patient identification and surgical site identification Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice. Adheres to aseptic technique. Respects dignity and confidentiality of Operating room patients. Uses resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, medications, and clinical information. Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift. Assesses the Surgical patient, plans and initiates care and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions. Performs clinical care in the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of the patient’s surgical experience. Demonstrates competency to perform both scrub and circulating role in assigned surgical procedures. Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving patients, equipment or lifting trays. Education Training and Experience Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required. Two years OR experience is preferred, however training and specialty specific education programs are provided during orientation and must be successfully completed as scheduled. Perioperative credit course is required for anyone with no OR experience. Basic computer skills: keyboard, mouse use. Ability to complete data entry on clinical documentation screens. Ability to use email and internet. Ability to successfully complete on the job training for CCH computer programs. Ability to practice critical thinking and organizational skills . Ability to understand English. Licensure/Certification Current Pennsylvania RN License. CPR certification required. Certification in clinical specialty (CNOR) is preferred. Patients with serious but less critical injuries can be admitted to the TSDU directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with trauma tic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. Patients may also be transferred to the TSDU from the Trauma /Surgical ICU when their clinical condition has improved but close monitoring or ventilator support is still required . The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient. Experience Required A minimum of one year or more of RN acute care experience in an inpatient setting is preferred Education Requirements Graduate of NLN accredited School of Nursing. License/Certification Requirements Current NJ-RN License (Registered Nurse).
